It is rare for me to deep throat my popcorn out of excitement before a film has even started.
Such is the excellence of this work that it calls into question the legitimacy of all Oscar awards since its release. In one of my short breaks from the strip club I was able to savour this high culture just as I savour the expert technique of my dicke Lippen. Yes, Doggy may be mein Hobby (du weist, was ich will), but watching 'Liebe Mauer' is my passion. It is with the eloquence of Bobik that Franzi communicates whatever the Laber she is trying to communicate, while Sascha never looks so good as when he stands erect next to the styrofoam block which, metadiegetically speaking, acts as a wall.
Having created both an incredibly realistic barrier and an elaborate 40 Jahre DDR poster, I was astounded that the studio had enough funds to provide the actors with clothes. Then again, if they had brought their own I would not be especially surprised either. Whether they had to pay MUFTI is the real question at the heart of the piece.
There was a slight problem in interpreting the narrative; the actors seem to be speaking a form of gibberish far removed from traditional English interlocution. Yet perhaps this is the most significant touch in reinforcing the Brechtian Verfremdung which transcends all social stratification to prevent Moebius from setting off an atomic bomb in Moscow.
Exceptional CGI of a romantic night-time scene competes with the morbid obesity of Major Kutzner for the title of most arousing sight in this work to beat all works. However, it is the complex character of Krueger which serves to elevate this musing on the transient to a level of unparalelled greatness, being the single greatest contribution to the 'ubi sunt?' genre since the dawn of time. Alas, as my editor now shouts from an adjoining room, "this is not the one where Elena finds her First Love in a Tunnel". Oopsy.
Such is the masterful construction of 'Liebe Mauer' that moments of comedy punctuate those of metaphysical contemplation which no doubt inspired the likes of Tarkovsky and Goethe. Take, for example, the death of Sascha in the Director's Cut. What could lighten the atmosphere better than a border guard falling from his observation tower and choking on Tante Emma's budgerigar in mid-air before he smashes Franzi into a pulp in a colourful explosion of DDR propaganda.
I expect Peter Timm is probably relaxing, cock(tail) in hand, on a desert island which is one of several he owns thanks to the predictably titanic revenue generated by this masterpiece. Yet I do implore him to come out of retirement whenever he feels ready. A triple x version of the Bulgakov's novel 'Three Sisters' would be right up his street.
All that remains is for me to extend a kuku to all the bras and bratinas involved in this exceptional production. Get ready to kiss my D1.

A curious love story in the middle of Cold War. It has something of comedy of errors and something of parody in the always caricature characters of generals and soldiers.

Starts out quite cute, for the first 10 minutes or so. But then it seems undetermined, getting so wearish, & lost in direction between bubble-gum, chick-flick, rom-com fairy tale & the serious historical & political agenda attached drama.
