This pseudo-documentary follows Ray Gange, a slacker from West London who works at one of the many sex shops in Soho. He is friendly with Joe Strummer, the frontman of the legendary punk band The Clash, and expresses his desire to tour with the group as a roadie. While Joe is receptive, his bandmates are less so -- but after Ray does their tour manager a favor, he's hired. Before long, Ray's bad habits take precedent over his responsibilities, putting The Clash in a bad spot.

Michael Blowen Boston Globe [Hazan and Mingay] should have either shot a few musical performances and made it a straight concert film or told the story of yet another Angry Young Man. They obviously couldn't do both. Apr 28, 2018 Full Review Dennis Harvey 48 Hills Age has also lent rough-hewn, near-plotless Rude Boy value as a time capsule of Britain at a low point of economic and social dispute... Jun 14, 2022 Full Review Cole Smithey ColeSmithey.com Joe Strummer had the goods, and the perfect band to back him up. See the proof, and ignore the film's spackled on political subtext. Destaque, além da trilha com vários sucessos do Clash, como White Riot, Tommy Gun e All the Young Punks, é um retrato de uma época, politicamente, economicamente e culturalmente, Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 09/28/24 Full Review Manuel G In a changing pase, the experience is a combination of disjointed images and music in keeping with the title of the film and the band members as the supporting cast, where we don't know what is in the teas of our protagonist or at least, common face of the film. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 09/21/24 Full Review Ryosuke N Althogh its quite long and some parts are dull, one can still sense the ironic portrait of a "slob" Ray,compared with a young jamaican theft who is an analogy of "Rudie". Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 07/05/24 Full Review Audience Member the clash are amazing. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/23/23 Full Review Audience Member This is the most realistic film I've ever seen, and it's worth watching for the concert footage alone. Very candid, very thought-provoking, and a complex picture of what Britain was like at the time. I could watch this many times and notice more things each time. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/19/23 Full Review Audience Member Brilliant film and not a documentary at all, rather a hybrid, filming in the world as we live it but with Ray Gange playing a dissolute racist within 'reality', and many of those in the film just playing along thus effectively improvising. Before Borat there was Rude Boy, and the latter is far superior at enlightening the cultural landscape. As The Clash was 'the only band that mattered' at the time, it is a film well worth watching for the music and the period experience. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/13/23 Full Review Read all reviews
