Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/02/24 Full Review David W Crimes of the Future is a very artsy and experimental film offering a unique look into the young mind of its creator, David Cronenberg. While interesting, I would only watch this again to try to determine more of the enigmatic meaning and if there were nothing better to choose from. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/21/24 Full Review J S it's not my cup of tea but i'm surprised how low it's rated. i thought it was beautifully shot. great mise-en-scène. maybe it's because I love brutalist architecture, or maybe it's because I saw a better restoration than some people have, but I disagree with many past reviews saying it's not worth watching, or that it would be better to just read the plot summary than watch. I think the opposite is true. the plot is not for me, but the filming is beautiful. it's an art film, and of course feels like a very compitent student film considering it was all obviously filmed at the university of toronto - that the 'hotel' is clearly a dorm and the 'organization headquarters' and 'labs' are also just lecture halls, the university's art gallery, etc. still, that in and of itself makes it a great documentary of some the quintisential brutalist and modernist architecture and design that is so characteristic of toronto. if you are not squeemish, check it out! Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/16/23 Full Review Bill T Interesting. but boy, you need a seatbelt, and maybe a pillow to sit through David Cronenberg's 2nd film.. What's it all about? Who knows, but there's some weirdly future comparsions to the AIDS crisis that would happen 15 years later (at least in my interpretation). The whole thing is confusing, wonderfully archaic set-wise, and oddly enough, hypnotically erotic. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/03/23 Full Review Audience Member I could only recommend this to the very few people on the planet that actually like these highly experimental yet sterile and uninteresting film student-esque projects. Humble beginnings for a remarkable filmmaker. Look at it that way. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/20/23 Full Review Audience Member Not easy to watch as the movie seems totally unstructured. The chatalizmic last 7 minutes reveals that the movie was a mad voyage to a crime. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Dave Kehr Chicago Reader All of Cronenberg's personal obsessions--the distortion of the body, the grotesquerie of sex--are on display, though the treatment is a bit sophomoric.
