Eye C An interesting history lesson about that time when England stop being a monarchy. I enjoyed it very much. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/11/24 Full Review Bill T A religious war epic to take someone who doesn't like these type of fillms.. You know, so they can further despise you. Never knew the tale of Oliver Cromwell, a man who despised the king so much, he organized a civil war to unseat the king, and then England didnt quite know what to do with itself. Anyways, Richard Harris does a good job in playing the titular character, and it's war scenes against Alex Guinness (!!) are quite well done... But this moves at a snail's pace, and could have used a wee bit more editing. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 04/02/23 Full Review j f Watch it annually, every March 17th. Suck it Irish. Real tragedy Cromwell was born a century or two too early, He would have made a real American hero. I lived in Northampton, England for a couple years. Few things make me more proud than to support their legacy of shoemakers, who cobbled an estimated 6000 boots for the New Model Army. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/09/23 Full Review Jim S Good cast, earnest acting, although no one's really committing to the part, sadly. Costumes and cinematography are great. Pretty dull. Not great. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member Entertaining epic with terrific performances from Sir Alec and Richard Harris. I can't vouch for the historical accuracy, however. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/12/23 Full Review Audience Member If it wasn't for the great cast this would be a bomb. It is very historically inaccurate. Roger Ebert Chicago Sun-Times Richard Harris, as Cromwell, schleps around the kingdom reciting epigrams and looking distracted. He doesn't inhabit the role or even seem to care much about it. Rated: 2/4 Oct 23, 2004 Full Review Roger Moore Movie Nation Whatever deserved abuse it received upon its release, it's brisk enough, the grandeur and scale hold up and the cast has just enough heft to carry it off. Rated: 2.5/4 Aug 7, 2020 Full Review Penelope Houston The Spectator The script [has] bitten off a more complex slice of history than it can hope to chew. Jul 18, 2018 Full Review Ken Hanke Mountain Xpress (Asheville, NC) An impressive cast of Brit thespians yelling dialogue in that declamatory manner that clues you in on the fact that this is important stuff.
