Kevin Maher Times (UK) A superior, better-looking piece of sci-fi hokum set in London in 2150. Rated: 4/5 Jul 8, 2022 Full Review Ben Walsh Independent (UK) Lots of vim and dramatic music here, but precious little polish or decent scripting. Nov 17, 2018 Full Review Tom Milne Time Out Very tame but marginally better than the first, with the Daleks unsurprisingly coming to grief after invading a ruined London of the future and robotising the inhabitants. Very variable special effects and often excruciatingly cheapo sets. Nov 17, 2018 Full Review Matt Brunson Film Frenzy This sequel is more adult-oriented but less interesting. Rated: 2/4 Sep 12, 2020 Full Review Mike Massie Gone With The Twins It's obvious that this particular Who adventure isn't meant to be morbid or suspenseful; in fact, it's aimed more toward child-oriented fantasies than heady sci-fi thrills. Rated: 4/10 Aug 24, 2020 Full Review Paul Mount Starburst ... Pleasantly dark and nihilistic in places and at eighty minutes it bounces along filled with action and spectacle the like of which fans of the TV series had never seen before. deke p Depressingly rotten, silly, stupid, cheapo. I didn't know DR. WHO went all the way back to a movie in '66. Was this actually ever in theaters? Unbelievable drek. Starring PETER CUSHING as the good Dr. I actually liked the few episodes I saw way back in the 90s, tho I thot they were also cheapo and silly. Stupid looking DALEKS robots with TOILET PLUNGERS for arms. Even the RT pro reviewers rated it much lower than the 'fans' of the regular audience reviewers. Never heardo this til saw on the tv set 8.3.22 Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Liam D I had a lot of fun with and it has better pacing, better comedy and an much more grander scale to it plus I love the score to it Rated 4 out of 5 stars 07/10/22 Full Review martin a A big-budget Doctor Who film, which tells the story of the bad old Daleks capturing humans in the future to use them as slaves in the mine, The sets are fantastic, and the cast is outstanding, the current Doctor Who effort should look back and learn how it was done, Bernard Cribbins is fantastic. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member This second Dr Who movie, is so much better than the disaster of the first film. Sadly Peter Cushing is still in the lead tole , doing his Mr Mcgoo impersonation, but his performance does improve. Great performances by resistance fighters Andrew Kier and Ray Brooks, bring an authenticity to the story absent from the camp panto of the first film. Roberta Tovey is once more very good as Susan. Bernard Gribbins, actually a real life action man in his youth, plays it straight as policeman Tom. There are good supporting roles particularly from Philip Madoc, as a black. Marketer and collaborator. This actor never got the roles or credit he deserved. Another underated player is dangerously attractive Shiela Stefeal, who first shelters, then betrays, the Dr's Granddaughter and one of the resistance fighters. Although it has been criticised, I really like the Dalek flying saucer flight sequences and when it attacks the rebels van. The story, is another adaptation of the TV series. The TARDIS leaps forward to 21st century London, that is in ruins. The daleks have killed most of humanity with germ warfare, then overwhelmed the survivors. Some are turned into android like security forces. They are using slaves to excavate a tunnel deep into the earth's crust through which they plan to detonate a powerful bomb and plunge the earth's core into the sun. The movie does have its flaws, in some prints the wires suspending the saucer can be seen. There is a strange Jazz music score that runs right through the movie. The final crash scene is rather light on the explosion and fire front. Missing from this version is the Dalek commanders pet monster, a mutation from Skaro that feeds on any people who stray into its path. However it's omission may have been a good thing. All in all a massive improvement on the first movie, massive. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/15/23 Full Review Audience Member I would say this is a bit better than the previous non-canon Doctor Who movie. Mostly because the story is just a better one, it keeps you interested longer. Decent production quality as well, although I think I remember thinking the same of the episodes this is based on. However, unforgivable is the lack of the epic ending speech given by William Hartnell in the original episodes. That moment was what made this story so memorable to me. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Audience Member I do agree this is the better fallow up to the previous Dalek movie, but I still feel it's underrated. Half of the main crew returns with good replacements, including a future actor for the series. And the Daleks have very seldom been more threatening.
