Joe Neumaier New York Daily News You either bring it or you don't, and directors Robert "Bobbito" Garcia and Kevin Couliau know how to do it. Rated: 3/5 May 24, 2013 Full Review Sara Stewart New York Post Daunting though it may be for the aspiring pick-up entrant, this is a fun and worthwhile ode to one of New York's greatest summer pastimes. Rated: 3/4 May 23, 2013 Full Review Nick Schager AV Club Doin' It In The Park thrives simply via its myriad sights of nobodies juking and dunking their way past opponents, exuding an authentic for-love-of-the-game competitiveness that's as infectious as it is intense. Rated: B May 23, 2013 Full Review Jamie S. Rich Oregonian Whether or not you play yourself, Doin' It in the Park is as involving as an afternoon on the court, and just about as much fun. Rated: 3.5/5 Jun 28, 2013 Full Review Avi Offer NYC Movie Guru An irresistibly entertaining, uplifting, well-edited tribute to the subculture of pick-up basketball in NYC. Rated: 8.21/10 May 22, 2013 Full Review Frank Lovece Film Journal International Documentary about New York street basketball offers great technical quality and admirably insider interviews, but celebrates the subject unquestioningly, without a larger context. Audience Member Doin' it in the Park is a piece of art, I love everything in this movie. They show a court 2 blocks away from my house https://trytopic.com/grove-hill-playground, in summers we play there almost every day Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/24/23 Full Review Audience Member http://letterboxd.com/zbender/film/doin-it-in-the-park-pick-up-basketball-nyc/ This film is a sort of word from mouth documentary about the history of pick up basketball in the streets of New York. I loved the format it took because the film is able to keep the attention of both hard core fans and newbies to basketball through simple storytelling. Archival footage is also put to good use in order to get a better idea about what the culture behind pick up basketball is in New York and in general. The film presents basketball not only as a hobby, but as a way of life. The basketball court is a sanctuary, and this film is displayed to portray that b-ball on the "asphalt" is "for the love" of it (the film does this wholeheartedly well). Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/27/23 Full Review Audience Member This joint is without a doubt the best documentary about pick-up basketball culture. Perfectly documented and insanely beautiful, this film captures with precision the essence of a culture in lack of recognition (especially in France). By their work on the field (they basically played games on every single court in NYC for the purpose of the movie), Bobbito Garcia and Kevin Couliau not only pictured the perfect portrait of pick up basketball in the Mecca but also revealed the importance of a place in many urban cultures (basketball, Hip-Hop, Skate- boarding): "THE PARK" A tale that I know any street basketball players all over the world will relate and I hope will inspire new players to come down to do it in the park... Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/15/23 Full Review Audience Member Doin' It In The Park is the modern version of the classic film of Endless Summer. It's a great film to watch on a weekend afternoon to just kick back. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/23/23 Full Review Audience Member Nice Basketball Documentary! An independent documentary directed by Bobbito Garcia and Kevin Couliau. The film explores the definition, history, culture, social impact and global influence of New York's outdoor summer basketball scene, the worldwide 'Mecca' of the sport. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/23/23 Full Review Audience Member Great Doc on pick up B-Ball in NYC. after seeing this film, itâ??s hard not to want to work on your spin move. Whoâ??s got next?
