Anton Bartok (Lee Richardson), the CEO of a research laboratory, acts as the self-appointed guardian of orphan Martin Brundle, whose father had been a researcher at the lab. El autor de los efectos especiales de la película anterior se ha encargado de dirigir esta secuela que continúa la historia de esta versión de The Fly hecha por Cronenberg. La película anterior necesitaba tener una secuela debido a que finalizo, dejando la duda sobre que sucedió después con Verónica y su embarazo. Esta película responde a esa pregunta y nos presenta la industria que estuvo a cargo de respaldar los experimentos de Seth. El protagonista es el hijo de Seth llamado Martin y aquí la trama de la película toma algunos conceptos de Return Of The Fly y Curse Of The Fly. Al igual que en Return Of The Fly, Martin continua con el proyecto de su padre, haciendo que la historia de la película anterior se vuelva a repetir, pero su intención es tratar de encontrar una forma de purgar el gen de mosca que lleva en su interior. Que Martin haya nacido con el gen de mosca provocando que envejezca más rápido y trate de buscar una forma de solucionarlo es claramente algo extraído de la trama de Curse Of The Fly. El romance que entabla con Beth también podría considerarse algo extraído de dicha película, pero es más bien algo que se usa para repetir lo visto en la película anterior. The Fly II ofrece efectos especiales que son tan buenos como en la película anterior. El único detalle es que esta película no es tan grotesca como la anterior. Cronenberg había ofrecido una película que lograba generar repulsión y asco en la mutación de Seth. Aquí la película es un poco más liviana y la transformación de Martin no tiene ese nivel de asquerosidad que tenía la transformación de Seth. No hay un gran deterioro psicológico en Martin y aún logra conservar su consciencia incluso luego de convertirse en monstruo. La criatura en que Martin se convierte no es muy repugnante del todo, pero logra verse bastante amenazante. La transformación de Martin es lo que hace que la película aumente de nivel cuando todo al principio parecía ir a un ritmo tranquilo. Se puede decir que en ese aspecto, la película si logra mantener el nivel de la película anterior y conservar su esencia. La partitura de Christopher Young incluso logra replicar el ambiente de la banda sonora de Howard Shore en la película anterior. Aunque The Fly II no llega a ser tan repugnante como la película anterior, de todos modos es una buena secuela que supo continuar la historia de la película de Cronenberg sin perder el ritmo o la esencia. Quizás no este muy a la altura de su predecesora, pero es una secuela necesaria para continuar la historia que Cronenberg había comenzado. Mi calificación final para esta película es un 9/10.

Without the likes of Cronenberg or Goldblum to carry this bizarre film, you would expect it to sink under its own weight. Fortunately, The Fly 2 is able to capture most of the unsettling and horror beats from the original, while putting a unique spin on it. The cast certainly does a great job jumping into this freaky world and working with the crazy guidelines given, but they lack the certain flair that Goldblum brought in the first. The story takes you out out Seth Brundle's seclusion and lands us in a place where privacy is rarely an option and the evolution can be seen by many. The setting and story give it the chance to have different experiences than the first, but also sacrifice a bit of the uncomfortable alone feelings that you wish it had. The Fly 2 stays true to the original and nearly keeps up in terms of quality.

Desperately missing mystery and interest. It serves better as a parody of the first film than an actual sequel. The antagonists fit the classic trope of stupid people working at an industrial lab and their counterparts are incompetent mall cops with guns.
