Critics Consensus

As lumbering and bereft of conscious thought as its unstoppable star, Friday the 13th Part VII - The New Blood finds the franchise in desperate need of the title ingredient.

Gene Siskel Chicago Tribune The filmmakers have mastered the blood but not the tedium of all of the predictable killings. Nor have they eliminated the '"hate-women" subtext to the entire series of films. Rated: 1/4 Dec 6, 2018 Full Review Ed Gonzalez Slant Magazine The anxieties suffered by Tina throughout the film are well thought-out by the franchise's typically one-dimensional standards. Rated: 2/4 Sep 25, 2004 Full Review Patrick Cavanaugh The Wolfman Cometh The more ways this franchise tries to make things "fresh," the more we're reminded of how little was there in the first place. Rated: 1/5 Sep 11, 2025 Full Review Sharai Bohannon A Nightmare On Fierce Street Podcast It's inspirationally bad. However, it holds a special place because it was the last one bad at an actual camp. Rated: 1/5 Jun 17, 2025 Full Review Kat Halstead Common Sense Media Others may be disappointed at another missed opportunity to revive a franchise that really feels like it's drowning at this point. Feb 8, 2024 Full Review Rene Jordan El Nuevo Herald (Miami) The seventh installment is better than expected, because it reserves the final duel between protagonists...something akin to Carrie vs. Jason. Oliver C. Friday the 13th Part 7” earns 2.5 stars for serving up a few fun telekinetic twists but mostly drowning in the same thin characters and recycled slasher beats. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 11/27/25 Full Review GotRizz237 Friday the 13th, Part VII: The New Blood was a great movie and had a great story. I really enjoyed Friday the 13th, Part VII! Great movie! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/23/25 Full Review Anthony H. Friday the 13th the New Blood starts off with a story that could be great but then just gets lost in itself. It had its good moments but this is just one of those goofy ones that kept me semi interested but lost me most of the time. Tina’s story was interesting but all the other people in this movie were just boring. I think this could have been better had they done stuck with it just following Tina. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 11/14/25 Full Review Romas M Greetings from Lithuania. The only reason why "Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood" (1988) didn't got a lower score then 5/10 from me was the fact they at least tried to do a bit something different with the premise here. The obvious Carry theme that was ripped here trying to fight with Jason is different, but at the end non of that matter as its just below average film in comparison to what came before. Gone is the self awareness of Part 6 - gone is any fun in film at all - it is just a lean and clumsy film that isn't fun to watch. Acting again here again was bad by everyone involved. I liked the Part 6 legitimately but this one is just not a good film to me at all. Overall, "Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood" and small budget, poorly written, badly acted and clumsy directed sequel. Not even an OK film. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 10/29/25 Full Review Isaac K. To be honest this one was my favorite Jason looked terrifying Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/26/25 Full Review Obi-wan K Y'know it gets tuah point Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 10/24/25 Full Review Read all reviews
