Syd and Pink Floyd crystallized a cultural moment where anything seemed possible but where that freedom could come with a cost. Was Syd just another drug casualty? Did he suffer from an undiagnosed mental condition? Or did he dislike the attention and fame as the fun turned to work? While there are no clear answers, there is the feeling by all those around Syd that something went terribly wrong. Have You Got it Yet? is a chronicle and a mosaic of Barrett's creative and destructive impulses, his captivating presence and absence -- a portrait of the complex puzzle that was his life.

Richard Whittaker Austin Chronicle Roddy Bogawa and Storm Thorgerson must rely on archive footage, music, and extensive interviews with just about everyone whose lives and careers intersected with Barrett, all given chronological structure by Jason Isaacs' narration. Rated: 3/5 Jul 27, 2023 Full Review Jem Aswad Variety The story is familiar, but it’s never been told in such detail. Jul 14, 2023 Full Review Glenn Kenny New York Times It’s as comprehensive and coherent an account of Barrett’s counterculture tragedy as one could hope for. Jul 13, 2023 Full Review Stephen Silver The SS Ben Hecht A worthwhile ode to the Pink Floyd cofounder, who left the band before their greatest success. Rated: 4/5 Aug 9, 2024 Full Review Andrew Anthony Observer (UK) What makes his tale a tragedy is not so much that Barrett stopped making music, but that his family, and in particular his sister, had to look after him, day in, day out, for 25 years. Rated: 3/5 Apr 29, 2024 Full Review June Butler Film Ireland Magazine Have You Got It Yet? has moments of greatness but equal levels of haphazard storytelling -- in parts Thorgerson delves deep (or rather deepish), while in others, the narration appears to be cobbled together. Andreas G As a huge fan of Syd Barrett's music (hot take: Piper at the Gates of Dawn is the only Pink Floyd album that matters to me at this point) I knew a lot of the information in the film already. Still there are a lot of insightful interviews and a lot of cool stuff about the psychedelic scene in Britain in 1967. A lot of media coverage on Syd focused on "madness porn" that romanticized his psychological problems, or on the "acid casualty" tropes. I am grateful that this film does not dwell on that. It paints a picture of a troubled, but also highly intelligent, literate, creative and curious person. It concludes with the simple fact that we don't what happened to him. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/22/24 Full Review Raygun S A wonderfully moving and emotionally draining movie. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/27/23 Full Review Stephanie H The film is a bittersweet homage to a highly unique, creative young man who gave his all to his art and the pursuit of it. I enjoyed the interviews of those who were fortunate to have known him personally. You can tell the directors took great care to tell his story with accuracy and respect; it didn't sensationalize his downfall, but rather highlighted his importance to the Floyd, rock music, and to all who loved him. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/25/23 Full Review Mark F A deeply immersive journey into the enigmatic life and times of the Pink Floyd front man Syd Barrett. The editing of archival footage and the Pink Floyd catalog as well as interviews with Gilmour, Waters and Mason delivers a kaleidoscopic insight into the psychedelic counterculture that Barrett led. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/15/23 Full Review Tom O Some mysteries cannot be solved. We're left with questions & wonder. Why Syd Barrett turned his back on creating music before he was 25 has puzzled & saddened fans for decades. In this fantastic new doc, family, bandmates, friends & former lovers all address Roger "Syd" Barrett & the impact he had upon their lives—in their memories, Barrett's life gains more dimensions, and depth, and a more complex portrait of a complex person emerges. A Rashomon-esque portrait of a subject seen thru subjective memories. It really drew me in—and has stuck with me several weeks after I first caught it. Added bonus is the footage & soundtrack; the trippy, dreamy interludes in the doc also harken back to the Hipgnosis art direction that was a crucial part of Floyd's charm. See it. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/14/23 Full Review Brett M Really earnest and well done documentary involving the people who knew Syd Barrett well.
