Laurie S If this load of rubbish is based on my favourite British gangster movie Get Carter which is a class 5 stars act in all departments then this has to be the worst of the director's films including the screen writer's. And the music director of this adaptation should get his act together because the score was terrible. Even the dire US remake starring Stallone was much better. The silly hat Casey wore made him look like a pimp. Incidentally Carter wasn't a hit man he was an enforcer. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 09/23/22 Full Review delysid d this was a great movie Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/13/18 Full Review Audience Member Get Carter receives the blaxploitation treatment and it fails to deliver. Pam is pure filth in it. I might have liked it more if I hadn't of been such a fan of Mike Hodges 1971 classic. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/20/23 Full Review dave j Monday, June 16, 2014 (1972) Hit Man ACTION MYSTERY THRILLER Again, this is yet another "unique" compelling version of the 1971 movie called "Get Carter" based on the novel by Ted Lewis called "Jack's Return Home" but anyone can tell by watching this that it's a remake. Hit man, Tyrone Tackett (Bernie Casey) had just come back from Oakland to Los Angeles to be a part of his brother's funeral. According to some, Tyrone's brother died from too much alcohol, leaving with him is his only daughter behind. But as the movie is progressing, it's much more serious than that, resorting Tyrone to go against the mob and seek the people responsible for his demise and people who employed him. If viewers are unable to adapt to low budget "Blaxploitation cinema" then this film isn't for you, since, besides it being low budget, it also has many cheesy dialogue and violent action scenes. And if viewers haven't noticed, every girl Tyrone comes to contact with whether she's black or white have at least one nude scene, including Pam Grier herself who is a natural standout. Also memorable is the fact that it's not really a scene-for-scene copied version of "Get Carter" therefore making this version to be unpredictable, calling this version the "Blaxploitation version of Get Carter". 3 out of 4 stars Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member Mike Hodges' classic British Crime film "Get Carter" gets a 1970s blaxploitation treatment. Bernie Casey does a good job stepping into the Michael Caine role of Jack Carter, updated here to Tyrone Tackett. Casey returns home to Oakland after his brother died in apparent suicide, but he quickly finds out there's more to the story and starting looking for revenge upon those responsible (who happen to be gangsters and pron filmmakers). Directed by the underrated and underused George Armitage, this version of "Get Carter" is head and shoulders above the Sylvester Stallone remake. Also featuring Pam Grier as a X-Rated film star, Paul Gleason in an uncredited bit part as a cop, and quite a few other familiar character actors, this film is well worth watching for fans of the genre.
