Homeward Bound is so awesome and hilarious with Chance’s gags throughout his journey along with Shadow and Sassy. I give it a 10 out of 10 for this beloved film and development.

This is Disney’s first remake. The original, The Incredible Journey was released in 1963. There are some major differences between the movies. First, in this version the animals are given voices, supplied by Michael J. Fox, Sally Field and Don Ameche. In this version, the human family that the animals are going home to also get more screen time. Both this movie and the original have their flaws and strengths. Michael J. Fox voices Chance, an American Bulldog, and also narrates the story at times. Chance is the only character with a story arc within the movie. I found the first act seemed to have the scenes chopped together, I could almost tell when the director said action. The last two acts seemed to blend together more. The bear encounter scene in the original was better than the one in this movie. They also added a few things to the script to add tension that I didn’t think were necessary. Overall this version I think is slightly better, but I think that it is very close. Check it out if you are curious.

Just like with Matilda, I have never read the book this movie is based on, making this movie my first taste of the Homeward Bound franchise. That admitted, I absolutely loved this movie.
There are 3 main characters that move this adventure's plot: Chance, Sassy, and Shadow. Chance is the main protagonist of the story, and the youngest of the three journeyers. He's a dog who (other then his owners) doesn't really trust most people, due to the fact that he was abandoned and sent to the pound when he was still a puppy. Despite this, Chance is actually very heroic, and by the end of the movie, a lot more brave and he trust humans a lot more, especially his main owner Jaime.
Sassy is the only protagonist of the trio who is not a dog and she is the in the middle of her canine companions when it comes to age. She lives up to her name by being sassy at times, which adds a lot of humor to the story, but after she gets badly traumatized when she almost drowns midway through the movie (more on that later), she becomes a lot more wary and scared of losing her friends again. I was so happy when she reunited with her main owner Hope at the end of the film after all she went through.
If there's one word to describe Shadow, it's loyal. He's extremely dedicated to his main owner Peter, as well as his friends. He's also the oldest of the protagonists, which almost leads up to his death near the end of the movie after he gets stuck in some mud, only to have an unexplained recovery and return safely home. If it weren't for his determination to get back home, the whole plot certainly wouldn't have started, since him leaving the farm at which they'd been left was what led up to Chance and Sassy following him to start their journey home.
But an adventure wouldn't be an adventure without some trial and error. One of the many challenges our intrepid trio faces involves them having to go over a river which almost leads to Sassy's death after she gets stuck in a fast current and ends up going over a waterfall, only to be found by a kind bird watcher who nurses her back to health. It isn't long before she's healed up enough that she can run back to reunite with her canine companions, and the trio happily continue on their way.
Another challenge involves the trio having to escape the pound (ironically not knowing their owners are currently coming to get them), which leads to them finally navigating their way home and reuniting with their stunned and overjoyed owners.
I absolutely loved this this movie and would definitely recommend it to anyone who loves movies with adventure, humor and the occasional generous helping of heartbreak. The bitter parts of this story just make the good parts all the more sweet.

Have you ever wondered what your pets do when you're on vacation? Well this movie is a good play on what might happen when you aren't there.
The movie revolves around three pets; Chance, an American Bulldog, who is a very chaotic, impulsive young dog, Shadow, an old, wise, and very loyal Golden Retriever, and a stuck up Himalayan cat named Sassy.
These three pets decide to go home after being left on the farm of a relative while their owners travel to a large city where their father has taken a new temporary work position. Along the way, Sassy falls in a river and ends up presumed dead when her canine companions can not find her along the shore of the river. Luckily, she gets found and saved by a bird watcher. While she is absent, Chance and Shadow face a mountain lion, and the trio happily reunites. Immediately after that, all three find a little girl who is lost along the shore of another river them must cross and they and keep her safe until she is found. Afterwards they get taken to and escape the pound, not knowing their owners were going there to retrieve them and finally make it back home.
This movie was an amazing watch, I cried more than once, It was a great story in general! I reccommend it to anyone who loves adventure stories and enjoys a good laugh.

One of my childhood favorites growing up and still remains the finest one after 30 years, I actually had no idea it was a remake Grossed over $57 million worldwide leading to a sequel Chance, Shadow, and Sassy are 3 beloved pets; 2 dogs and a cat Chance is adventurous but doesn't know any better, Shadow is loving and loyal always looking out for everyone, and Sassy is refined trying to set a good example Yet when their human owners decide to move it creates a rift They all feel abandoned for good so they decide to venture miles into the wilderness to return home Their human owners of course worry out of their minds considering they have to brave the elements, face off against mountain lions, bears, and porcupines The movie's appeal to the younger kids yes but the animals as well They have voiceover actors channeling their inner thoughts and thankfully it's not any of the creepy mouth movements It's kinda incredible they put the animals in dangerous situations its almost uncomfortable You are rooting for them to get back to their family safely plus the scenery is breathtaking with the California landscape Robert Redford, Michael J. Fox, and Sally Fields are pretty spot-on voicing these animals Chance is the narrator but the driving force is Shadow just wanting to go back his human boy he loves so much Yes it's corny at times but has an understanding seeing their facial expressions, the camera angles, and how they react to certain situations It's easy to see their emotions and what they're thinking This movie still retains a feel-good charm Plus it shows the deepening bond between dogs and humans; they're supposed to be faithful, loyal, and true There's always room for family and we can learn to say goodbye even if it's temporary Both kids and adults can enjoy this together endlessly whether it's the 1960s version or this 1990s remake
