Roger Ebert Chicago Sun-Times I Am Curious (Yellow) is not merely not erotic. It is anti-erotic. Two hours of this movie will drive thoughts of sex out of your mind for weeks. See the picture and buy twin beds. Rated: 1/4 Jul 6, 2018 Full Review Serge Daney Cahiers du Cinéma Vilgot Sjöman resembles a modern filmmaker -- in that he constantly questions cinema's powers -- but he gives modernity a theoretical and lifeless vision that leaves at best the bland aftertaste of a good deed (in capital letters) performed under duress. dave s Lena is a Swedish, 1960's version of a today's social justice warrior as she roams the streets trying to initiate political and social change, annoying everyone in her path as well as those watching the movie. I Am Curious – Yellow is nothing if not annoying. Devoid of anything resembling style, form, characterization or plot, it is a rambling mess where the only thing less interesting than the political elements is the sex, of which there is plenty over the last hour of the movie. It's rubbish disguised as art from beginning to end with no redeeming values, other than the fact that it is mostly in focus. There's a selling point – ‘check out I Am Curious!! It's in focus!!" Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review james g As a kid, I heard about this movie. It ONLY played at drive-ins, and at a particularly infamous one in my small but artsy town, so I sorta knew it must be 'dirty'. I finally watched it about a year ago via a DVD checked out from the library. And I found, 50 years later, it wasn't 'dirty' at all, but it WAS a tad political and mostly boring. Yes, it has a bit of nudity during a rather ugly sex scene. This was back when naked people on film had never seen the inside of a gym. Sort of like the naked people today, on stage, in an infamous part of Bangkok. Ugh. But, oh, those marketing people knew what they were doing back in 1968 (53 years later this film can be found in libraries!), so some things never change.
