nick s The acting was good and the story engaging. Plenty of action with big sets and a lot of extras. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/12/23 Full Review Deke P Interesting. Particularly for me, cuz when I worked in the State Capitol Building I bought a 6-man raft & enjoyed rafting past the thick stone walls of FOLSOM PRISON, right on the banks of the American River. And we would cruelly, loudly sing taunt the prisoners by loudly singing Johnny Cash's famous song, Folsom Prison Blues. This movie was actually filmed inside the walls of Folsom Prison, and for that reason alone it was worth watching. The plot featured a good guard versus a cruel Warden, and prisoners killing prisoners, and attempting escapes, and a warlike battle verses prison guards. And it starred David Brian as the good guy, & also Kappa Sigma bro PHILIP CAREY (later famed as Granny Goose potato chips). At the end, a narrator impersonating the voice of the prison itself, explained that bad days were soon over, as enlightened reforms were being made (beginning in the term of Republican Governor Earl Warren. Never heard of it until saw it on the telly, 5.25.23. Givin it 4&1/2 RT stars = "it's good, i recommend it". Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 05/26/23 Full Review David K Not a bad movie, it's a story of conditions in 1920's Folsom Prison. It's one of a string of prison movies made by Warner Bros. over the years highlighting the inhumane conditions that led to reforms. Although it lays out problems still existing in the early 50's during the coda, it glosses over them. As far as the film itself, Brian David is the reforming prison guard captain who is pitted against the sadistic warden who ultimately overcomes. Steve Cochran is the tough-guy con who has a moral compass, although whose morals are in question. Overall, good acting. The problem is this is a story we've seen and we know how it plays out. But, if you love the tough, gritty nature that Warners brought to their films, it falls right into that mold. For me, I prefer WB over the glossier MGM library, but they both work well.
