John DeFore The Hollywood Reporter The action isn't nearly sufficient to carry all the mumbo-jumbo, and the cast doesn't have enough charisma to keep the script afloat on their own. Sep 15, 2006 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member I loved it! Yo need to know a bit about Finnish Mythology first. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/12/23 Full Review Audience Member I watched this on Netflix streaming, and I have to express my great appreciation for Netflix here for enabling me to view a Finnish movie and moreover one that combines Finnish myth and Chinese martial arts. While not a great movie, I thought it was entertaining and, considering its tiny budget, three and a half million dollars, a rather amazing one with a decent story and good acting. If, like me, you're a fan of martial arts movies, believe a country's cinema reflects its popular psyche and are curious about the worldviews of others, you might want to give this one a viewing. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/18/23 Full Review Audience Member I love Sci-Fi foreign films. I couldn't wait to see this...and this is how I rate a movie if it is good.. I was on Netflix. I turned on the movie 15 times, and I fell asleep 14 times. Frustrated, I turned it on the 15th time after reviewing the non-incredible action, the non-exciting plot, and the non-existing adventure of this film, and I realized...maybe it's the perfect kind of movie to watch when I need to sleep. Its a sleeper. Ugh. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/16/23 Full Review Audience Member Jade Warrior plays on many a mans fantasy of finding and falling in love with a beautiful Asian woman(Jingchu Zhang looks AMAZING in this film) who happens to be a Kung Fu master. That concept was diluted by bringing in a parallel story, from the present time period, that was hard to connect with. The fight scenes looked excellent considering this movie was supposedly made with only 3.5 million. But they were not enough to save Jade Warrior from it's bland characters. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/12/23 Full Review Audience Member Jade Warrior a.k.a. Jadesoturi (2006) "Jadesoturi" is a mixture of the Finnish saga, called Kalavala and Chinese kung fu mythology. Here we have two films with parallel plots and casts, one set in ancient China and one in a sort of modern Finland, where most of the action is divided between a junk shop, a museum and a subterranean forge. Only Tommi Eronen, who plays both protagonists, Kai and Sintai, appears in both parts. However, the structure of the film is quite annoying. The interleaving of the past and present scenes might seem attractive artistically, but really confusing for movie watchers. Such a way of rolling out the whole story makes it hard to understand the causal relations between some of the story elements. Zhang Jingchu's and Markku Peltola's performances were good, and the acting from the rest of the cast was let's say...decent. As for the cinematography, I would say it's just OK. It was neither impressive, nor bad. The fight scenes were somewhat of a disappointment; They were beautifully-shot, but also they looked rather like a dancing moves, than an actual fights.
