      Critics Consensus

Josh Brolin gives it his best shot, but he can't keep the short, unfocused Jonah Hex from collapsing on the screen.

Matt M Picked this movie up for 3.99 at a second hand media shop, I recognized thee Jonah Hex name but I had no clue that made a movie about him. Casting in this movie is bafflingly bad, like the actors are great it's a star studded cast, but almost none of them feel like they fit the roles at all. The film feels oddly short, like the pacing is really fast and the plot is really sorta disjointed to get the whole story across in about an hour and ten minutes. The art direction is solid, Jonah's prosthetic makeup looks good, and the bringing people back from the dead thing is neat and relatively well executed. It's not the worst thing I've seen, definitely not worth paying for it but if you see it on a streaming service, like the character and have an hour to kill it's not a bad time. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 11/02/23 Full Review Heath M I'm not sure why this is getting so much hate.. Its a fun snack sized action movie with some great story beats and action. It's made me want to find out about the comics. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/29/23 Full Review Red B This movie is insane...I'm not familiar with the source material at all but even if I was I can't imagine this even comes close to hitting it. This is barely 70 minutes and it feels like it's over 2 hours because it never stops with throwing crazy insane stuff at you. It never explains the rules of the talking to the dead except you burn quicker if you just died. Everything else just happens and makes the rules up as it goes. The action is just as bizarre with terrible CGI, bizarre kills, terrible obnoxious camerawork, and farfecthed moments especially how does Jonah know the dragon ball is deadly and stops it from going up the pipe. I can't tell if this is trying to be a action movie, western, or a Van Helsing rip off and I'm not sure it does either. Brolin is probably the best thing in this and he's just ok with some good humor in the start. But that's it, he's weighed down by just bizarre choices in the plot and terrible execution. The music is just as bad and never matches the western setting and feels too over the top and out of place half the time. And the worst part is there are just flat out times where I don't even know what is happening. Stay away from this at all costs. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 09/27/23 Full Review Harry F I enjoyed this movie 🎥 for the action🍅, it was void of all the foul language especially the violation of using " God's " name and the "F" bomb every single sentence ‼️The sex I can fast forward through but I cannot fast forward when the dialogue is filled with cuss words, cussing🤬 and sex do not make good movies 🎦 I enjoy 😊 19 century movies 🍿 Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/24/23 Full Review Craig S It's been over a decade since this movie came out. I've been meaning to do this for quite some time, and after re-watching it tonight it's time. This is a far far better movie than any of these reviews suggest. Leaps and bounds, more entertaining than anything that gets produced and released today. By no means is the plot, story, dialogue, going to blow you away, but it moves the action forward, the scenery, sets, production, all make for a fun watch. And that's what this is a fun movie watch. Yes, Josh Brolin is an outstanding actor, this isn't about that however, it's just a fun movie, and it delivers on exactly that.
