Audience Member Solid, also it lacks a bit the big moments of japanese cinema Rated 3 out of 5 stars 04/29/19 Full Review Audience Member Eleven Samurai sees Eiichi Kudo with a bit more refinement. Gone is the overly shaky cinematography of The Great Killing. This one is all solid performances and tense build up. The final action scene is great, with a real sense of dread and desperation. This is an underrated samurai film for sure. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/05/23 Full Review Audience Member A fascinating samurai film by the director of the original 13 samurai. The evil character is presented as a ruthless lord from the beginning as he attacks anyone who slightly offends him. In order to preserve the alliances among clans, the transgressions of the lord are retold to exonerate him and lay the blame on a minor clan. Such an action will abolish the clan's autonomy and place them under the clan of the offending lord. When the intentions of the alliance are known, the representative of the minor clan asks for a 30 day notice which is granted. In that period the clan will try to kill the ruthless lord in order to expose the injustice and brutal tactics of the alliance leaders. The director's notoriety is in creating tension within his scenes and exploiting the gore of the brutal period. The director is masterful in each shot. The camera movement is seamless throughout and placed to create great images. It is a powerful reflection of honor as the minor clan fights against the odds to expose the oppressive methods of the alliance leaders. The offending lord is narcissistic and one of the most nefarious villains on film. Despite the age of the film, the skill of the director in building suspense and editing the shots leads to a film that continues to be powerful and disturbing at depicting the dark nature of humanity.
