Audience Member Great Italian rip off of the Deer Hunter and others. David Warbeck is Rambo before Rambo. plenty of Good old Italian gore and violence what more can you ask for. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 11/16/22 Full Review delysid d I thought this Vietnam ripoff movie was awesome! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 06/09/18 Full Review Audience Member Top priority mission to destroy radio tower behind enemy lines in 1973 Vietnam. The first lucrative teaming of star Warbeck and Director Margheriti with many of Margheriti's regulars on board as well. An innovator, the first Italian war film (laughably released as an unofficial sequel to The Deer Hunter) to document the Vietnam crisis rather than the usual WWII subgenre. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/24/23 Full Review Audience Member BETTER THAN APOCALYPSE NOW! . . . BEST VIETNAM MOVIE!!!!! Anthony M. Dawson (Antonio Margheriti) the director of Apocalypse Domani (aka Apocalypse Today, Cannibal Apocalypse, Invasion of the Flesh Hunters, Cannibals Are in thee Streets), KILLER FISH, YOR HUNTER FROM THE FUTURE combines The Deer Hunter, From Here to Eternity, Apocalypse Now! into The Best Vietnam War Movie Ever!!!!! Just as in Joseph Conrad's Heart of Darkness, The Guy has to go "Up River" to KILL Margit Evelyn Newton (from Hell of the Living Dead) who is demoralizing American troops in Vietnam like "Hanoi Jane" Jane Fonda did to our troops during the Vietnam Conflict. David Warbeck is The Guy and he plays a similar character to The Guy he played in A FISTFUL OF DYNAMITE (in a lover's triangle, David Warbeck is The Guy who's Just a Friend and doesn't get The Girl--in a Fistful of Dynamite, Warbeck has a giant mole on his forehead because Sergio Leone deemed him too pretty for the role). I AM CRAZY OVER THE FRANCO MICALIZZI SOUNDTRACK!!!!! even though RCA publishes it, I've yet to see a descent Lp or CD rip of the score . . . MAJOR BUMMER!!!! I have Micalizzi scores for Chi Sei and The Visitor but not for THE LAST HUNTER and that SUCKS . . . I have THOUSANDS OF SCORES AND ALBUMS. here, someone write to RCA and CAM and get them to release an official LAST HUNTER soundtrack it would be called "L'ULTIMO CACCIATORE conno sonora di Franco Micalizzi" I LOVE THE SOUNDTRACKS MORE THAN THE MOVIES THEMSELVES. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/14/23 Full Review Audience Member Pretty cool war film, straight forward story. Lots of action and some violent visuals. Some cool exploitations actors as well: David Warbeck, Bobby Rhodes, Massimo Vanni, John Steiner, Tisa Farrow. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/16/23 Full Review Audience Member The Last Hunter in my opinion is the best Vietnam movie ever made I saw years ago Apocalypse Now need to see it again The Deer Hunter and Full Metal Jacket I need to see again. Well with a title like the Last Hunter of course they ripped of The Deer Hunter but only by title though. This in my opinion had to be the most expensive Italian film ever made up until Cut and Run. Antonio Margheriti was unknown in the 70s until his ultra violent gore feast Cannibal Apocalypse witch was a smash hit at the box office lunching his career beyond Italy. But before that he made this after his last hit. Captain Harry Morris is sent back to Vietnam feeling guilty about the suicide of his friend so he takes one last job. He is being sent behind enemy lines into the heart of it all to take out a broadcasting anti-war propaganda tower. But doing so is not 100% easy and throughout this movie you will see why. It's hard to write the story but all I can say is its epic it's got everything you could see in a Vietnam movie. I will give the acting a very big plus in this and meanly because all the stars are Americans. And no dubbing was needed really. The special effects are just epic normally for a film like this they would steal footage from other Vietnam movies like the helicopter fights and massive battles but no. Antonio had a very large budget so he was right to create anything he wanted. The ending was so sad in my opinion. But all in all the music was awesome along with the settings and editing and sets. Here are some facts I found. Director Antonio Margheriti decided to make a Vietnam War film due to the success of the American film The Deer Hunter. The Last Hunter was even originally made as Cacciatore 2, an un-official sequel to The Deer Hunter which was released in Italy as Il Cacciatore. Promotional posters were even printed up with this title. Antonio Margheriti's son Edoardo Margheriti (who served as second unit director) said the title was changed to L'Ultimo cacciatore due to rights issues. The Last Hunter was filmed in the Philippines in many of the same locations as Apocalypse Now. The film was an extremely hard shoot due to heat, wildlife, and accidents on the set. Cinematographer Riccardo Pallottini died in a plane crash during the production. The Last Hunter unlike Meany Italian action movies had a very large budget well over 6 million dollars but needleless to say the film was a successes. Overall Best Vietnam movie ever made and that's my opinion my final verdict is highly recommended. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/13/23 Full Review Read all reviews
