Ben Kenigsberg Time Out Director Lattuada was reportedly acclaimed for his oddball tonal shifts, which Mafioso offers in spades. Abe A One of the five greatest movies of all time, in my opinion. In no particular order, Last Year at Marienbad, Breathless, Goodfellas, Mafioso and one more...I'm undecided. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/18/24 Full Review nefasto r "Mafioso" is a drama from the start. Subtle at the beginning and direct at the end, but a sad, realistic drama nevertheless. A decent film with a great Sordi. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review andrey k Excellent movie. Vivacious, vibrant and funny unless it is not. It starts as a conventional Italian comedy but ends up as a colorful depiction of Sicilian people and especially the legendary Sicilian mafia and its worldwide influence. I can see how this film was a great influence on the future modern gangster epics like 'The Godfather', for example the scene of killing in the barber shop so much reminded me of Michael Corleone killing police captain and Sollozzo. And in general this film stands out from other gangster films of the earlier period. A masterpiece. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member This film starts well and has a lot of potential, but doesn't do much with it. By the time the story starts getting really interesting, it's over. Not bad, but a little far-fetched (Your family wouldn't notice that you were gone long enough to travel from Sicily to New York and back when you were just supposed to be hunting? Did I miss something?) and then fizzles at the end. I will give it credit for doing a great job with building the dread and suspense leading up to the climax. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/16/23 Full Review Audience Member Definitely has its humorous moments. I recommend it. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Audience Member Francis ford Coppola had to watch this film before he started his career, probably Martin Scosese too.
