Francois Truffaut Cahiers du Cinéma This film... is very boring, and that only the Benayouns, the Kirous, and other Adonises will be able to monopolize it in order to puff up the very thin (in spite of itself) files of surrealist cinema. Andrew L The best of THE MUMMY sequels, even though it has little to nothing to do with the original Boris Karloff film. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 07/16/24 Full Review Joel H Could The Mummy's Hand be better than The Mummy (1932)? That's what I kept asking myself while watching this relatively unknown horror flick. I mean, the mummy is creepier in this movie, and there's more wrapped-mummy scenes than in the Boris Karloff classic. However, this movie uses scenes from Karloff's film to pad the runtime. And the characters Banning and Babe seem like a generic-brand Abbott & Costello (even though this movie actually came out before the great comedic duo's first feature film). If The Mummy's Hand is better than The Mummy, it's only slightly, which is still a surprise to me. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 11/05/23 Full Review Valerii Ege D Universal Horror movies are good, but some of them hide their horror element for too long. This movie is one of them. Comedy elements are much greater than the horror elements. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 09/08/23 Full Review Steve D Not better but more fun than the original. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 04/08/23 Full Review Audience Member Improving on the 1932 film but still confined to B-movie status by the writing, direction and acting, this pleasant reboot takes its time to establish the characters, relegates the Mummy's objectively weak backstory to a setup instead of a reveal (and, disappointingly, the creature itself to an unskillful henchman), has very good make-up, brings out the comedy (with mixed results) and has a promising format reminiscent of the 1999 movie or even Indiana Jones, whom this film apparently inspired. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review Liam D Even it's use of Stock footage and cheap effects are inexcusable the likeable characters make this B movie a fun watch Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 08/06/22 Full Review Read all reviews
