Hoping to spur an uprising that will anger France's king, nobleman Charles (Nelson Eddy) boards a Louisiana-bound ship and tries to unite a group of men about to be sold into slavery in a campaign for liberty. Charles enchants fellow passenger Marianne de Beaumanoir (Jeanette MacDonald), an heiress moving to America, but they are forced to part when his scheme is revealed. They're reunited, though, when Marianne's new ship has an unplanned encounter with the old ship, now commanded by Charles.

07/02/2015 I loved this. Maybe that's because I also love 18th century French clothing, good music, and romance. (and beautiful people!) See more 03/28/2015 The singing lovebirds warble some of Sigmund Romberg's greatest hits: "One Kiss," "Softly As In A Morning Sunrise," "Stout-Hearted Men," "Wanting You," "Lover Come Back To Me" - but the film itself is a rather pale imitation of NAUGHTY MARIETTA.
