SEE LETTERBOXED FOR FULL REVIEW See more DanTheMan 2 @DanTheMan2150AD Nov 10 From archetypal excellence to unhinged magnificence, Ninja III: The Domination is unquestionably the daffiest film of the trilogy, but equally to the point where it circles back on itself to become unchecked brilliance. Combining an unstoppable, and not remotely stealthy, ninja killing machine with a slice of demonic possession and gratuitous Flashdance-inspired aerobics sequences, in a way that sadly hasn't become a recurring element of ninja cinema. Props obviously have to go to director Sam Firstenberg, who keeps the whole barking mad narrative together with a remarkable amount of cohesion, sincerity and relentless energy, as the salvo of spectacular mayhem unfolds onscreen. The choreography is just as striking as the previous film, with enough genre twists to keep things fresh. Sho Kosugi gives another great performance, even if he wasn't happy about his demotion from leading man to supporting role, but the fact that he got to take centre stage for the film's climax must be a good consolation prize. It's Lucinda Dickey who proves to be the real surprise of the film; however, she does a marvellous job of keeping a straight face no matter what she's expected to say. Backed by a slew of memorable set pieces, hilarious dialogue and a bopping musical score, Ninja III: The Domination is about as much as you could ever want getting your Cannon on.
