This years collection of live action short film nominees stretches across five countries and five completely different styles of filmmaking: unfortunately, the overall quality of these films is average at best. Helium is the only one worth noting on here, which is far above the rest of them in quality and meaning. Bottom line, I'd recommend watching them all if you haven't seen that many short films before; but if you have, watch Helium and prepare to have your mind hole blown. The Voorman Problem is worth watching as well.

I you're reading this, the Oscars are over. PPV Helium. All of the others suck. If Helium doesn't win then it's because someone slept with someone and/or paid someone off.

Al these short films were wonderful. I don't think I could choose the winner. 5 stories ranging from about 8 minutes to 25 minutes.

We saw the 2014 Oscar-Nominated Live-Action Short Films yesterday at the Regency/South Coast Plaza. It was well worth the drive!

A very polarizing group of films - some almost too light and whimsical, and others albeit well made, too stark and depressing. "Helium" and "The Voorman Problem" were the two exceptions. I know the world's not a "pretty" place - but even it it's great filmmaking, I don't care to be assaulted by that fact.
