Tyler G Aug 12 All the kills are the same and boring. The premise is preposterous. And it commits the ultimate sin of these dumb low-budget horror movies- it is not fun. You'd expect more with James Cameron at the helm, but everyone has to start somewhere; he followed up with 'The Terminator' and 'Aliens' so he did alright! This, his feature directorial debut, is proper rubbish though. It's seemingly less to do with Cameron anyway in fairness, it sounds like producer Ovidio G. Assonitis had his hands all over this; Miller Drake was the original director, who Assonitis evidently fired. I think that speaks for itself. Either way, it's low-quality and I hold no positives. The editing is all over the place, there are moments where it cuts to characters for a relative few seconds for no apparent reason; notably with Chris & Allison and that random couple whose names didn't even register. Some of the character interactions, mainly early, are weird too. How the film utilises the piranha is the big issue, though. Unlike the Joe Dante original, we see so much of the fish that it becomes ineffective; less is more and all that. And that's without mentioning the biggest howler produced: they made them fly. It plays as terribly as it sounds. I don't have anything all that noteworthy to say about the cast, but to be honest this film's issues have very little to do with them. Tricia O'Neil is the standout if I had to pick one. Perhaps only an all-star cast would've saved this, but probably not given all the offscreen problems. See more Elvis D 03/22/2024 Mientras la primera película fue el debut directorial de Joe Dante, esta secuela fue el debut directorial de James Cameron, cuando en aquel entonces solo trabaja como miembro de los efectos especiales de algunas películas. Por más que esta película sea considerada la peor en la carrera de James Cameron, no hay que olvidar que esta fue su primera película como director y no tuvo que recorrer mucho, ya que poco tiempo después salió a la luz su gran obra Terminator. Esta película fue hecha para aprovechar la rentabilidad que tuvo la cinta original de Joe Dante y aunque es algo inferior, la verdad es que es una película entretenida y fascinante para los amantes del terror retro. Aun con la ausencia de Roger Corman en la producción, se puede sentir algo del aire de la película original. Es curioso que esta película haya estado a cargo de una productora italiana y más por el hecho de que por aquel entonces Italia había empezado a hacer sus propias secuelas de algunas películas conocidas. La banda sonora de Stelvio Ciprani es decente como en la mayoría de sus trabajos. El guion es simple y no es muy relevante. Las actuaciones son regulares, ya que muchos de los actores eran italianos que no sabían inglés. La idea de las pirañas voladoras era sin duda algo estupendo para llevar la saga a un nuevo nivel. Claro que al ser una película de bajo presupuesto, hubo limitaciones y el diseño de las marionetas se nota casi como en la película original. Hay que agradecer que los efectos especiales estuvieron a cargo del artista de efectos especiales Giannetto De Rossi. Lo mejor de esta película es el gore que le hace justicia a la versión de Joe Dante, a pesar de no ser mucho y tener efectos prácticos que llegan a ser algo evidentes. Siendo justos, ambas películas son de bajo presupuesto, pero tienen su encanto. Aquí se mantiene el tono de serie B de su predecesora y por eso esta secuela de Piranha es un film decente que los amantes del terror pueden disfrutar.
