Jackie K. Cooper jackiekcooper.com Seeing is believing but if I hadn't been told it was a true story I would not have believed it. Rated: 7/10 Sep 25, 2022 Full Review Tara McNamara Common Sense Media Movies can be a great way for faith-based filmmakers to spread "the word," whether it's about the power of God or the power of our own inner strength. But attempting to turn someone's trauma into entertainment is a huge responsibility. Rated: 1/5 Sep 22, 2022 Full Review Avi Offer NYC Movie Guru Gripping and captivating while brimming with warmth, compassion and tenderness despite some preachiness, heavy-handedness and on-the-nose dialogue. Sep 17, 2022 Full Review Carey-Ann Pawsey Orca Sound It is a film based in faith. Meaning there are definite religious overtones here. It questions whether God can be found even in the worst of circumstances in life. Rated: 3/5 Sep 17, 2022 Full Review Alan Ng Film Threat As a faith-based film, it’s a good one. Rated: 7/10 Sep 6, 2022 Full Review Richard Propes TheIndependentCritic.com Johnson tells the kind of story seldom seen in faith-based cinema and he tells it in a way that is jarringly honest and devastating. G D Wow, such a great film Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/24/24 Full Review Marsha S This was an amazing account of a mother's love. The strength and courage it took for this young woman to endure the most horrific acts that a woman should never go thru.. And to come out of it with a true spirit to regain her life and be reunited with her 3 children after the years of abuse and torture.. One of the best if not THE best true story I have had the privilege of watching.. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/19/23 Full Review tammy h It is a beautiful work of faith and love. It is a definite must see❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥 Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Ali K Movies based on a true story steeped in atrocity require a softening of the blow and some semblance of hope to prevent viewers from zoning out. Pursuit of Freedom brings its audience into an unsettling environment set in a ravaged Armenia and rift with foreshadowing that points the way to the possibility of all sorts of calamity. A mother (poignantly and authentically played as Anna by Jessica Koloian, Courageous Love) and her children could sink into grave danger at any given moment. As this film drifts all too quickly, plunging its protagonists into perilous situations that seem unredeemable, viewers squirm. At this point, some may opt to Google spoilers to ensure that things somehow work out. After all, this is a true story, and one wonders: How in the world can these vulnerable victims be redeemed? Will they be rescued? This is where viewers move to the edge of their seats. Should we see it through or ditch before the storyline dives further into oblivion? Some may even pray for divine intervention. In the nick of time, Naomi (Sharon Lanier, Ella Fitzgerald: Something to Live For), an angelic nurse, offers hope in scrubs as she dials a missionary arm for help. Enter Bedros, the heart of this movie. I first saw the actor Stelio Savante (Running From Grace, Infidel) as Moses in episode 7 season 1 of The Chosen (first-ever multi-season series crowdsourced). In Pursuit of Freedom, lines like "not all who wear the cross have the heart of Christ," are reminiscent of Moses's serpent on the pole scene from The Chosen. Bedros and Moses have something in common. They led a desperate people into uncertain terrain but both believed God would provide. At its core, Pursuit of Freedom promises to deliver hope. You'll have to watch the film to see if the real story does not disappoint. For sure, Director George J. Johnson delivers a poignant performance by Stelio along with his cast mates that includes Robia Scott (Unplanned, CSI) as his wife, and Anna's children who bare their hearts with impressive storytelling. Pursuit of Freedom is available in some theatres and on streaming services such as iTunes, Prime (Amazon Instant Video), Google Play and Vudu. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/28/22 Full Review karen f Inspiring story of a mother's love and a community of believers who helped her reunite with her children. True story! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review sandy w I watched this with a group of Armenian families in the theater. When the film finished, everyone gave it a standing ovation. It seemed that all were moved by this gem of a story. The acting and the cinematography were excellent and the filmmakers deserve a ton of credit for making this film using so many Armenians in the cast. Well done! 5 stars from me.
