What to Know

Critics Consensus

Power Rangers has neither the campy fun of its TV predecessor nor the blockbuster action of its cinematic superhero competitors, and sadly never quite manages to shift into turbo for some good old-fashioned morphin time.

It doesn't take itself too seriously and it lets itself have a good time and be full of joy. It's about friendship and family and teens being teens. Go to Full Review

The loneliness and anxiety experienced by each of the characters perfectly captures how hard it can be to grow up. The fact that the teenagers all come from different backgrounds and are of different ethnicities is the cherry on top of the cake. Go to Full Review

Power Rangers plays something like The Breakfast Club crossed with Transformers (to which this film makes a couple of direct nods). Go to Full Review

It is great to say that while Power Rangers is no cinematic masterpiece, it is a fine start to a franchise that has been resurrected and thrown back into the limelight. Go to Full Review

Thomas R 11/19/2024 The film was perfection - I laughed, I cried, my only complaint about the film is that it ended. Ariana and Cynthia are absolute powerhouses, Michelle and Jeff are as mesmerizing as always, the sets were breathtaking and the vocals entrancing, I could go on for days. See more Julian R Oct 22 This movie has slow character development and normally I like realistic movies but Manley this one a little bit too realistic but besides that it’s a great movie it’s fun and I love the teenager vibes all I have to say. See more Andrew @Toxie Sep 30 This was very good and underated See more DanTheMan 2 Sep 25 I remember being so excited for Power Rangers back in 2017. I followed all the build-ups, all the marketing and then... I never saw it, never caught it in the cinema, and am only now finally cracking open my DVD after it has been sitting in my collection for nearly eight years. A wholly imperfect romp that proves unexpectedly entertaining thanks to being visually ambitious, with colourful city-levelling mayhem without ever resorting to self-mockery. Certainly, the most polished film of the franchise to date. Dean Israelite's direction teeters on the brink of excess with a chaotic mass of swish-pans and rapid-fire edits; it packs just enough zing to make you forgive the origin-story clichés and the insanely ubiquitous product placement. Although with that ambition comes a tendency to take itself way too seriously in an effort to justify the big-budget spectacle. It doesn't feel secure in its silliness or the camp goofiness of its roots, focusing heavily on the emotional dynamics between the protagonists that ends up becoming ballast. Despite that, the loneliness and anxiety experienced by each of the leads perfectly capture how hard it can be to grow up. Bryan Cranston's take on Zordon is commendable, but Elizabeth Banks' Rita leaves a lot to be desired, chewing the scenery at every opportunity. While it doesn't quite pull off everything it wants to, at its best, Power Rangers is a throwback to a time when getting a darker, more serious big-budget film based on your favourite kid-friendly property, one that felt like a real film, was a rare and splendid thing. Solid enough as a framework for more to come, but sadly, it seems that ship has long since sailed onto other things. See more Nickolas L. @NickEL Sep 22 It was good reboot for the ranger. I don’t like that it didn’t get a sequel. See more Joel C Sep 13 Fun watch. Great cast! See more Read all reviews
