Frustrated by her ineffectual efforts to confront her parents and to help her clients, Shari begins a crusade to change her state's inadequate child-molestation laws which would allow incest victims to sue for damages. What happens when you discover your nightmares are something even worse? Released on September 27, 1993, Shattered Trust was based on true events although they are changed for purpose of dramatization and entertainment. It appealed to me recently when I was looking for good movies about child abuse, and when I watched it I was moved by its storyline reflecting on the emotions of our main character. I liked how the chapters are divided by the dates of each court case chronicled. Melissa Gilbert has done a great job performing in her lead and she wasn't afraid to speak out even, as a prosecuting attorney, she interacts with the victims and their tormentors. The typewriting sounds sure work as a trigger of the revival of old bad nightmares for her. Overall, I can say that Shattered Trust: The Shari Karney Story is a great dramatic portrayal of many courtroom battles that drive into the passage of laws to help the victims of abuse. As a title broadcast on television for the first time back in the early '90s anyone who was around at that time might rediscover this, and for anyone who has never seen it they it would be worth checking out.
