Marcia V I never do reviews, however, had to comment on this film. It insults one's intelligence. If Lopez wants to exhibit her body perhaps she should do playboy. Just awful!!!! Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review Audience Member Flat and just not funny 1.9 Rated 2 out of 5 stars 10/19/21 Full Review jesse o This might be the sleeper horror film of last year. I wasn't made aware of this film's existence until a couple of days ago where, after I finished Harold's Going Stiff, Netflix recommended three movies and this was one of those movies. I was intrigued by the concept and I thought the trailer was funny but I really wasn't expecting much because how many times do you watch a great trailer and then the film turns out to be crap. I think this is even more common in the horror genre, that is unbelievably crowded with a lot of talented people not getting the credit they deserve and a lot of lazy filmmakers looking to make a quick buck off the fans. The point of the matter is, that I wasn't really expecting this film to be more than just a cheap horror movie with a couple of laughs and some decent gore. Boy, did this movie really surpass almost every expectation I could've had. This film is supremely dark and really damn funny. This is what Cottage Country should've been but completely failed. While I realize I didn't give the film a better rating, this might actually be one of the funniest horror-comedy films of the last couple of years. It's got an incredibly funny cast and a really clever script. Sometimes in these films, the comedy and the more "serious", or dark, stuff are usually kept as far apart from one another as possible, leading the film to have some very severe tonal issues, Cottage Country is a perfect example of this. This film doesn't do that, there's a synergy between the comedy and its darker themes that many films can definitely learn from. The film sees selfish characters doing horrific things in order not to ruin Robbie's and Rosemary's wedding. That's all I'm gonna say as part of the film is seeing how far the film can take things, but I'm pretty sure you can guess where things are gonna go. It's quite a shame that this movie didn't receive a wider release as I think it could amass a pretty sizable cult following as it is a really good horror/comedy film. If you have Netflix and you love clever and dark horror films, then you really can't go wrong with this one. I had a blast watching this film, even if it dragged a bit at certain points. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member One line summary: Black comedy about the horror of a wedding day gone very, very bad. -------------------------- This is an extremely black humor version of wedding videos. During the stupid but obligatory pre-wedding day drinking, the groom Robert accidentally shoots Pensee, the MOH (maid of honour) in the face while shooting skeet. Then the endless layers of coverup begin. Covering up the original injury results in deaths. Yvette, the MOG (mother of the groom) and Hank, the FOG, are principal in the coverups, but Elizabeth joins in since she wants to be promoted to MOH to replace Pensee. Apparently she just does not care about legalities. Ted helps out as well. The bride, Rosemary, is kept in the dark almost until the end. A couple of the professional videographers stay quiet because they hope to get awards for their footage of the savage and criminal proceedings. The whole thing looks like it is about to unravel. However, the FOB, Philip, a four term judge running for re-election, makes it clear that nothing is going to hurt his campaign's chances. Do we have a happy Hollywood ending, or does justice prevail? -----Scores----- Cinematography: 6/10 Hand held camera problems aplenty, but a good chunk of the film was shot traditionally. Sound: 7/10 No problems most of the time; some of the sound from handhelds was iffy. Acting: 6/10 I especially enjoyed Bonita Friedericy as the MOG, Kelsey Ford as Elizabeth, Brett Stiller as the bride's former boy friend, and Joel Miller as the FOB. Many of the bit players were not very good. Screenplay: 6/10 The script did a better job than I expected keeping the suspense up. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/13/23 Full Review Audience Member Deliciously Demented! The most outrageously funny wedding flick ever! It's unfreakingbelievably insane! If loving it is wrong I don't wanna be right! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member At the celebrations prior to a rich person's wedding, the groom accidentally shoots the bridesmaid. In an attempt to ensure the wedding goes smoothly, the mother-in-law tries to help cover up the shooting ensnaring others as they all keep trying to cover for each other's misdoings. I didn't recognize anyone in this netflix film. Pretty entertaining, it was all shown in steadycam, the footage is mostly of the wedding party spying on one another.
