Jeff M The only real drawing point of this abysmal TV movie is the chance to see a pre-Oscar winning Hilary Swank smack the mom from GROWING PAINS in the head with a rotary phone. I will admit that it gave me a bit of is-this-really-happening-in-my-life pleasure. And they show the scene twice - they obviously know a good thing when they see it. Other than that, it feels like the filmmakers drew plot devices from every Afterschool Special they had ever seen out of a hat, mixed them all together, and voila! Swank comes across as a reject from a Linda Blair-in-teenage-juvie movie from the 70s. Kerns and Lauria (the dad from THE WONDER YEARS) are the flakiest parents in TV movie history, to the point where you almost start rooting for Swank when she grabs the kitchen knife. Add in a teenage son who is an alcoholic classical music piano player, cook at 350 for 45 minutes and enjoy. I'm not a huge Swank fan - I frankly think she's a limited actress who happened upon a great couple parts that made her a double Oscar winner. And there's nothing here to suggest her future success. It's stuff like this that tends to give TV-movies a bad name - or at least used to. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/04/24 Full Review H S Lame, but very much a made for tv train wreck that made me keep watching. I wouldn't recommend watching with another person though unless they like embarrassing, poorly acted, pointless, unnecessary 90s family melodrama garbage. Because that's what this is…I finished it, that's a thing, finishing a movie, so 1 star haha Rated 1 out of 5 stars 11/28/23 Full Review Audience Member Awkward singing by Swank and definitely not on par with her usual performances. It seemed to stop rather than end and fell very flat. Good story though; I'd love to see a remake. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/15/23 Full Review Audience Member Classic 90s with some really great actors! If your into lifetime movies from the 90s this is worth a watch for sure! They don't make them like this anymore. Hilary Swank was great as was Joanna Kerns Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/21/23 Full Review Audience Member This one Flips the Script, where the Parents are the ones afraid of their abusive Daughter Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/19/23 Full Review Audience Member not bad an intense ride Hilary Swank does an outstanding job what threw me off though was every member in the family suffered their own pain wasnt it supposed to be about the one girl lashing out only? oh well, this does show you that whatever happens to one person affects the rest the chemistry works, the film has big emotion and its definitely relatable Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/22/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
