Audience Member If you don't like this, you must have one foot in the grave and are afraid of Never Neverland. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/21/23 Full Review Audience Member An entertaining cheeseball fantasy film Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/23/23 Full Review Audience Member Jag är inte så mycket för peplum/svärd&sandaler/muskler&svärd men det här var väl halvkul Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/03/23 Full Review Audience Member Blame Dungeons & Dragons. Blame "The Sword of Shannara" becoming a NY Times bestseller. Blame the magazines Heavy Metal and Epic Illustrated. Blame STAR WARS, which was Sci-Fi but apropriated fantasy motiffs and created an audience receptive to imaginary worlds. Fantasy films flourished in the early 1980s, even before the Governator wore Conan's loincloth and hair extensions. Precursers to the CONAN movie included 1980's wretched HAWK THE SLAYER and this film, which was actually a TVM and pilot for a TV series (which I do not think was ever picked up). THE ARCHER: FUGITIVE FROM THE EMPIRE has a plot revolving around a barbarian prince who is cast out from his people and becomes involved in the machinations of an expansionist empire that wants to wipe out the independent barbarian tribes. I saw it on TV years ago (I was in grade 9) and then happend to find a VHS copy and rented it in the late 1980s. It was pretty cheesy, but better than HAWK THE SLAYER. It has Belinda Bauer as a bikini-wearing sorceress and Richard Moll played the chief bad guy (before he bacame Bull on NIGHT COURT, Richard played imposing villians in films like this). Also, the hero's father is played by George Kennedy made up to look like a bearded viking king! That image alone is worth the price of admission. They re-released this one on VHS when Xena and Hercules were hits on TV a decade ago. No DVD release yet. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/24/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
