      The Face of Love

      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Perhaps worth checking out if only for the opportunity to see reliably powerful work from Annette Bening and Ed Harris, The Face of Love undermines its leads' performances with a scattershot script and aimless direction.

isla s This is a sad watch - it features a great cast and performances from Annette Bening, Ed Harris and Robin Williams (Williams is only on screen for a few minutes though, not being one of the main characters). I found this an emotional watch - if your prone to crying at films then tissues will probably be required. I thought this film handled the themes sensitively and I found it a good watch. Its somewhat thought provoking (which is something I like the films I see to be) and I would recommend it to others, yes. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review jean s First of all there was no real chemistry between Benning and Harris - either as husband and wife or crazy grieving widow and artist doppelgänger. And I like both actors generally. Camera was not kind to either of them (or poor Robin Williams), and all those closeups just made it even more uncomfortable to watch. And was there no budget for Ms. Benning's hair? She looked like she had a fright wig on. Mr. Harris's chapeau as the artist really wasn't much help to him either. The doppelgänger plot line is totally unbelievable and all that follows on it built on shifting sands of the "big" denouement in Mexico. If I'd gone to see this in an actual movie theater, I would've walked out. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Amo esses romances dramáticos fofinhos e lindinhos… Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/12/23 Full Review Audience Member Beautifully acted and suspenseful. A mature love and loss played with warmth, depth and restraint. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/19/23 Full Review Audience Member Great actors, lack of script, pointless end. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/13/23 Full Review Audience Member This must be one of the worst films i have ever seen. So bad, that not even the greats like Benning, Harris and Williams can save it. Very bad script and direction. Waste of money, talent and my time. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/03/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Geoffrey Macnab Independent (UK) The actors, though, lift the material. The most poignant performance comes from the late Robin Williams in a cameo as Nikki's neighbour and friend. The absence of a thorough backstory will either leave you feeling as though the film is a throwback to less convoluted storytelling, or a soap opera, depending on your taste. With the electric Bening and Harris at the helm, it hardly matters... Rated: 6/10 Apr 18, 2019 Full Review Read all reviews
