An extensive look at the Americans left behind during World War II, this documentary explores the many ways in which life changed in the United States in the course of the era. The film focuses largely on women and African-Americans, who began to take more prominent positions in the nation's workforce while troops served abroad. Incorporating radio broadcasts, newsreel footage and photos, the production also features numerous interviews with those who kept the home fires burning.

Thomas C This was an abolsutely fabulous documentary. I found it on You Tube along with some others about the same topic---homefront during the War. The others was sappy and full of nostalgia, more like an "oldies" show than a social history. This one was an awesome social history. I do not agree that it focused too much on women and blacks. It focused on the major dynamics set in motion by the war--and post-war. It was just so well done. The stuff about disruption of families, snap marriages, increasing in juvenile delinquency because of absent parents were all things I had never heard about---even if they make total sense when you see them. And the interviews were just terrific---both the editing of them and especially the cast of everyday people they found to interview. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/06/23 Full Review Read all reviews
