Audience Member I picked this up in the bargain bin not knowing what it was, except that it looked like a low-budget sword-fighting epic. For 5 bucks, sure why not? Low-budget doesn't automatically mean terrible, if it has a good enough script and good enough characters. I had no idea it was actually a foreign movie made in Malaysia. Although the movie is indeed flawed in many ways, I didn't think it was completely without merit. Some of the scenery looks quite nice and the action/fight sequences were decent enough. The main character also goes through a story arc where he discovers his past, and as a result, changes what he choses to live for. They even manage to squeeze a few humorous scenes in to mix it up. Unfortunately some of the acting and delivery of lines isn't very good (the introductory sequence made me wonder if I'd be able to watch the whole movie). The movie also seems to have a very golden-yellowish tint throughout which didn't really do much for me - you WANT to see the bright greens and blues of the sky, ocean, and trees. The action is shot in a semi-stylized, frenzied manner which I thought might have been a little overdone. The movie's pace can be very slow at times and drags on without much happening. Paired with some hit-or-miss dialog, this can make it hard to watch. Most of the movie is in English, including two Chinese women who explain that they were bored and spent their time learning new languages. At least it was acknowledged! In the latter half, the main character engages in some dialog-heavy scenes using his native Malay language. Subtitles don't bother me at all, so a little authenticity is welcome as opposed to arbitrarily making it all English for commercial reasons. Bottom line: I've seen a lot worse, and despite the obvious flaws there's a few bright spots so I deem this movie as "OK".
