I really just appreciated how young love was portrayed in this film as well as the reality of how it plays out. Also, nice but sad symbolism Mia-Hansen Love.

cinegeek.de Es ist Camilles (Lola Creton) erste grosse Liebe, Sullivans (Sebastian Urzendowsky) vermutlich aber nicht. Sie gibt sich ganz ihren Gefühlen hin, dieser ersten Liebesbeziehung! Sullivan ist 19 und auch er liebt sehr, aber da gibt es eben auch noch diese andere Seite in ihm. Es wäre zu einfach, nun zu schreiben, dass er die Verbindung mit ihr nicht wirklich wollte. Er hat einfach Probleme damit, zu verstehen, was er wirklich sucht. Ihre Eltern wissen von der Liebe und akzeptieren sie auch. Schliesslich ist das auch ein wichtiger Teil des Erwachsenwerdens. Nur Camilles Eltern sind etwas besorgt, ob ihrer Obsession - und obsessiv, das ist Camille! Sie verbringen nun einen kleinen Urlaub im Haus der Eltern, dort wo sich die Sonne im Wasser spiegelt und die Bäume im Wind rauschen. Ein Liebesidyll. Verstörend aber für Camille, dass Sullivan nicht vorhat, nach den Ferien wieder zur Schule zu gehen und stattdessen nach Südamerika auswandern will. Diskutiert wird das nicht, es ist ein Fakt. Camille ist am Boden zerstört - natürlich! Ich denke, dass der Film etwas zu nachsichtig umgeht mit Sullivan, der für mich ein egoistisches Schwein ist! Zumindest ist er jung und glaubt, die Welt drehe sich nur um ihn. Während er Camille noch etwas von einer gemeinsamen Zukunft vorfaselt, weiss er bereits, dass er gehen wird. Un amour de jeunesse ist der dritte Film von Mia Hanen-love, die selbst erst 31 Jahre alt war, als das Werk Premiere feierte. Im Zentrum steht Camille über einen Zeitraum von acht Jahren. Sullivans Reise durch Südamerika dagegen erleben wir nur durch Reisnägel, die Camille in eine Landkarte an ihrer Wand pinnt. Irgendwann bleiben seine Briefe ganz aus. Camille zieht die Pinn-Nadeln wieder aus der Karte und legt alles zurück in eine Box. Sie bewirbt sich an der Schule für Architektur. ihr Professor Lorenz (Magne-Havard Brekke) wird zugleich Mentor und Liebhaber, er ist bereits etwas älter und auch stabiler. Sein schütteres Haar fällt aber etwas merkwürdig über sein Gesicht. Und Sullivan? Nachdem wir herausgefunden haben, was mit ihm geschieht, reagieren wir genauso wutentbrannt wie Camille. Tatsächlich hat Sullivan sie überhaupt nicht verdient, verlangt nun aber Vergebung und Verständnis! Un amour de jeunesse ist ein schöner und auch interessanter Film. Ich habe sogar jede Menge Infos noch zurückgehalten vor euch! Ich wünschte nur, der Film würde zorniger mit Sullivan umgehen (wenigstens anstelle von Camille). Ihre erste Liebe hat zeitweise fast psychopathische Züge und ich würde verstehen, dass Sullivan zurückhaltend reagiert. Er hat jedoch ganz andere Gründe. Ich denke nicht, dass er die Tiefe Camilles jemals fühlte. Wir denken an die erste Liebe als etwas Wundervolles und Süsses. Hansen-Loves Film aber, gräbt viel tiefer. Hier ist die erste Liebe eine Tragödie.

I found this quite disturbing. It's filmed in a jump cut, detached kind of way - the narrative leaves the viewer to fill in the gaps, and to read the emotions which are not spelled out. Behaviours are naturalistic rather than cinematic. There is nothing particularly uplifting about the story, except insofar as the main protagonists are normal, fallible people, and survive. There is some explicit nudity, if not sex, and no violence, thankfully. Thought provoking.

Hansen-Løve is a very talented director who knows how to tell a simple yet poignant story in a way that always rings true and real, and it relies on a beautiful cinematography and a surprising pair of actors who even make their perfectly affected romantic lines sound natural.

If you close your eyes and imagine a modestly budgeted French film centred around the love and loss of Parisian girl, then this is almost certainly what you'd have in mind. In a very similar form to that of 2013's Blue is the warmest colour, this takes the more realistic route to express itself. So expect lots of scenes in which hardly anything happens, a purposefully plodding pace, and characters that live and breathe more in reality of everyday life rather than the pages of a piece of fiction. The performances are subdued, and the script is penned back keeping everything in the realms of normality which does have its engrossing elements, but it also could make this an unbearable watch for some. After Boyhood went above and beyond to have its lead actor at the same age as the character, while this on the other hand has the issue of Lola Creton looking a bit too old to be 15 at the start of the film, and a bit too young looking to be high-rising architect by the second half. Boyhood really has spoilt us. The relationship at the heart of the film is undoubtedly idyllic, sometimes a little too idyllic, but unlike the better Blue is the warmest colour this isn't as painful to watch when things start to go rough. Fans of realistic romantic drama should give this a look, but those who like explosions and fistfights need not apply.

"Un Amor de Juventud" es un delicado estudio sobre un romance entre una joven de 15 años llamada Camille (Lola Creton) y un joven llamado Sullivan (Sebastian Urzendowsky). La cinta, llena de silencios y momentos poéticos, logra mostrarnos la fragilidad del primer amor, la imposibilidad de olvidarlo y la búsqueda de la libertad, los proyectos de vida y la necesidad de seguridad.
