Benjamin Lee Guardian A rather limp, confusing little fantasy that could have been left gathering even more dust on the shelf without anyone needing to know. Rated: 1/5 Jun 23, 2023 Full Review Eddie Harrison film-authority.com …once the burning tulips and giant-fly traps have faded away, what’s left is an odd, miscalculated film that’s only real value is as a final round of goodbyes to a beloved star… Rated: 2/5 Nov 27, 2023 Full Review Monique Jones Common Sense Media [Carrie] Fisher herself is engaging as the mystical witch Hazel, but the rest of Wonderwell doesn't support the magic she brings. Rated: 2/5 Jul 13, 2023 Full Review Loren King Loren King What’s a dark fairy tale without an enticing, benevolent witch? That she’s played by the late, great Carrie Fisher, in her last movie. Jun 30, 2023 Full Review Lisa Johnson Mandell AtHomeInHollywood.com A well-made, thought-provoking fantasy spectacle that is sure to score points among Fisher fans, who will not only enjoy her feisty, straight-talking character but will be reminded of her intrinsic beauty and talent. Jun 27, 2023 Full Review Luke Y. Thompson CineGods.com Wonderwell is the sort of film that may require a rewatch once you realize what it’s up to – there are definitely some dead spaces that first time around, but as fables go, it’s at least a worthy attempt. Emma G The movie isn't worth watching. Didn't expect much from Rita ora , as I haven't seen her in any other movies. Story didn't make any sense .The actors didn't show any emotion. The movie just seemed very weird . Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 11/21/24 Full Review Jeffrey W Loved the idea of a secret, magical world. There's something about the idea that there's this other, secret world below ours that's so interesting to me. Like the idea that somewhere or somehow I could just step into a door (or down a well) and be transported--makes me feel like a kid. The modern world in Wonderwell (like the real world) seems so dull compared to the magical one, but at the same time the message was that you can't just run away forever. It's more like that you've got your imagination and all these possibilities, but at the end of the day you've got to come home and take care of your responsibilities. I don't mean that in a bad way. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/01/24 Full Review Malika K I love stories about a natural, hidden world below/beside/above ours. It’s as if all these things we’ve built and developed and invented are just cake toppings on top of a real, powerful world. This story is really interesting as well, how like a young girl is going through her personal journey, while also taking us (the audience) through our own journey of discovery. Really quite interesting! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/22/24 Full Review Keith M Feels fresh, but also kinda the classic “light vs. dark” story. It’s like a cool kind of juxtaposition. I like how it’s not super obviously shown, just hinted at and gotten from context. It’s a complicated world! I think Hazel and Yana (the witches) represent this pretty well. Oh and let’s not forget Carrie Fisher’s amazing performance! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/11/24 Full Review Audience Member Wish I could have seen it in theaters. We rented Wonderwell and watched it in our living room, but now I'm thinking how cool it would have been to see it in theaters. I mean yes, we rarely go to the movies anymore, but sometimes I miss how immersive it is when you see something on the big screen. I remember seeing Pan's Labyrinth in the theaters years ago (I'm thinking of that cause Wonderwell it kind of similar), and I feel lie that's one reason why that movie stuck with me so much. The visuals in Wonderwell were especially great, but still it would have been cool to see it in theaters. But anyway, the movie is good and meaningful and if you can find it for rental you should go for it. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 09/11/24 Full Review Maggie S Watched it with my teen cause they asked. My daughter had heard about Wonderwell from somewhere, so I thought we should give it a chance. It was very fantastic and magical and all that, but in the end it was a cozy watch. I'm so used to movies these days being sequels or prequels or spin-offs or reboots, so I've gotten out of the habit of giving a band new IP a chance. So my daughter loved it (probably since she relates to the main girl), and I enjoyed it, too. It's a little thing, but it helped up bond a bit, like we were talking afterwards about the story and what it all was supposed to mean. Maybe not everything has to be a metaphor, but it's still cool to think. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/30/24 Full Review Read all reviews
