I've watched all the previous seasons, and enjoyed most of them up until the tail end of season four where I thought the formula had started to go off the rails. Thankfully, season five appears to have got things back on track, starting well despite the scarcity of new characters. The writing has improved immeasurably and the courtroom drama is now first rate. Episode four 'True Love' is one of fhe best I've seen, incorporating clever plot twists surpassing my highest expectations of this comedy driven series. Moving on, things turn out to be more medocre, and episode 4 was certainly the high point. There are a few more interesting cases, but as the series begins to approch it's ending, the emphasis switches to the more mundane business of wrapping up all those loose ends for the characters which went the distance. I suppose this was to be expected, but it feels hollow again, like the ingriedients which made the show great have been dummed down in the interests of a tidy conclusion. Without revealing too much, I thought the ending came far too quickly and felt hurried, and some might even think it unplanned and contrived. Having watched the entire series. i was dissappointed by it. Aside from a few good episodes near the beginning, I felt short changed by season 5, with it's megre 12 episodes. The chemistry between Spader and Shatner is second to none. But along with the comedy comes serious issues, some are out dated but others are ongoing.
