You can go home again -- sort of. Bachelor Alex Cole finds himself living with his newly divorced sister in this Hulu original series. This time around, though, he and his sister are adults and they find themselves navigating the waters of the dating pool again -- all the while trying to raise Valerie's teenage daughter, who's also dipping her toes into the dating pool. Each one seems to have only casual relationships (hence the show's title): Valerie because she's newly divorced and trying to have fun; Alex because he's sort of a stereotypical bachelor who has yet to really grow up; and Laura, because she's a teenager. But the new living arrangement turns out to be a learning experience for everyone, punctuated, of course, by typical show devices (blind dates, one-night stands, parental visits, etc.) that lead to moments of hilarity, in between which nuggets of truth can be found. Emily St. James Vox Privilege isolates and devastates people in both directions, and somewhere in its bones, Casual knows this. Jun 16, 2016 Full Review Ben Travers indieWire In this deeper connection with characters, Casual feels all the more real. Jun 8, 2016 Full Review Inkoo Kang MTV A self-satisfied smirk stretched out into 30-minute installments, the Hulu series hides its lack of profundity and originality behind a faux-edginess. Jun 8, 2016 Full Review Allyson Johnson The Young Folks The laughs (albeit small chuckles mostly) remain and Watkins and Dewey continue to be impress. Rated: 8/10 Jun 12, 2016 Full Review Ken Tucker Yahoo! TV Casual -- the let's-call-it-a-sitcom starring Michaela Watkins as a single-mom therapist -- proceeds from a place of diffidence, of setting up the mildest of jokes and seeing how softly the show can make them land. Jun 7, 2016 Full Review Kevin Yeoman Screen Rant Where Casual excels is in making the steps toward personal growth feel as real and meaningful as the setbacks, even though they unfold within the heightened world of a television dramedy. Andrei D Needs a few more laughs Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/29/24 Full Review Audience Member Starts to get a little redundant but we still can't get enough of these great characters. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member There's so much casual sex that there were times when was there a point. But the characters evolve from dysfunctional codependent family members to caring individuals struggling to understand why they r the way they are & work to correct and become better human beings. Sub plots r powerful Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review dj l While this season wasn't enjoyable as the other season it's still very watchable. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 07/04/17 Full Review Audience Member While Season 1 was great it missed the mark a couple times because of it's shorter length of episodes and many storylines randomly ending towards the end. Season 2 however gives us a much more focused look at the 3 leads and reminds us how they and feel and puts them into situations that turn casual relationships into genuine commitments as well as having the characters have to go through change and how that process is for all of them. It also gives us a much more interesting story and gives all 3 of the characters a lot more to do and is significantly darker than last season while still having some light laughs throughout and ends in a very hopeful positive direction for the show that makes us think that these characters might finally find happiness and might be ready to finally face reality and make a change to there repetitive lifestyle. Grade for the Season: A+ Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member I had such high hopes for this series. Sadly, its been disappointing. The first season was smart, well written and had more depth, even though the chatacters were barely getting introduced. Season 2 has left me with a sour taste, to say the least. I keep watching because I keep waiting for some miracle but, its not happening. Looks like the writers and actors to a hiatus and they called it season 2.
