What to Know

Critics Consensus

Emphasizing spycraft's heavy toll to both intriguing and tiresome effect, The Agency situates its all-star cast in a sumptuously-shot world of espionage.

You have to hand it to The Agency. It must have taken a lot of effort to make a series starring Michael Fassbender, Jeffrey Wright, Jodie Turner-Smith, Richard Gere, and executive produced by George Clooney this boring. Go to Full Review
Graeme Blundell The Australian 01/03/2025
…The show is impeccably controlled in its tone, meditative almost, but gripping as various plots are outlined that will obviously continue to be developed in the same fashion as The Bureau unfolded. Go to Full Review

The considered pacing, and labyrinthine storytelling, feel apt. This is a show that knows what it is building to, over this season and future ones. Go to Full Review

This deep dive into what it takes to constantly lie about your life and identity is powered by superb writing, acting, and edge-of-the-seat thrills Go to Full Review

The episodes seem far too long, and large swathes of screentime feel like treading water; it's as slow as molasses. Go to Full Review

You get the urgency of world events, secret bedroom adventures and-oh!-that Fassbender, with his firm mouth, noble profile and burning gaze. Go to Full Review

Jerald B @Beau319 3d Spellbinding & intense, drawing you in immediately. While the initial setting up of the characters is a little hard to keep track of, it’s a necessary evil for this genre. The actors, locations, & sets phenomenal & ultra-realistic. The writing is compelling & masterful, with at-the-edge-of-your-seat suspense, & some great zingers embedded (as far as unexpected humor & put-you-in-your-place dialogue, LOL). Not knowing the CIA / DoD abbreviations might be confusing, but just letting the story & characters play out actually improves the flow of the dialogue & story. Action & special effects, as well as wardrobe, are stunning; Jodie Foster-Smith’s clothing is legendary, as well as her & Katherine Waterston’s acting; w/ ALL of the actors’ performance top notch. This is the most enjoyable series we’ve seen in a long time, with no dumbing down for the viewer, nor token lines to attract young adults to the series. And not pc, other than the one obligatory LGBT scene🤦🏼‍♂️. See more Misty R @Eskimoxoxo Jan 30 This show was fantastic. It keeps you guessing at every turn and had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. The writing is sharp, the performances are strong, and it delivers everything you want from a gripping spy thriller. See more Alan B Dec 18 Stunning show with some impeccable acting, and a beautifully crafted tight plot that is all too rarely seen in the TV industry. Superb. (But probably a bit of a challenge if you are a professional critic with a short attention span.) See more KeLorean Nov 15 Acting is superb, and has a nice balance of tense spy drama and military action sequences. Stays in it's lane. Doesn't go over the top like many in this genre. It explores less explored angles of espionage, keeps you guessing, and the ending is fantastic. See more Alastair S Nov 8 Pretty good spy drama - great cast ! Michael Fassbender absolutely brilliant in this role See more Nathan H. @shufflefilms Oct 16 Very solid spy caper. Feels relaxed, reminds me of Black Bag which I loved and I don’t mind the lengthy episodes because a good cast of spies betraying each other and figuring out what to do next is fun to watch. Pretty relaxing but engaging show See more Read all reviews
