      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Extrapolations' civic-minded storytelling is so sprawling that it never coheres into a satisfying whole, although its sheer star power and good intentions make for a mildly intriguing lecture.

Roxana Hadadi New York Magazine/Vulture High-concept in its presentation of global warming’s impact on the future but small-minded in its commitment to rich Westerners as its primary protagonists, Extrapolations ended up being the kind of show you watch with a shrug instead of a gasp. Apr 27, 2023 Full Review Judy Berman TIME Magazine It’s a humane, carefully constructed but often frustrating project—and one that illustrates why insightful art about the climate crisis has proven so elusive. Mar 21, 2023 Full Review Amber Dowling Globe and Mail The show is at its strongest when it sticks to tangible outcomes and keeps emerging technology on the back burner. Mar 20, 2023 Full Review Joe Reid Primetimer Good intentions and occasional high points can’t overcome the overall disappointment of watching a series that’s never as gripping as its subject. Aug 6, 2023 Full Review Erin Maxwell LA Weekly/Village Voice This is a series built on good intentions, but it lacks engaging characters, clever dialogue and approachable situations. It will probably largely be ignored – just like most climate issues. May 29, 2023 Full Review Martin Carr Yahoo! Movies Meryl Streep and Edward Norton head an all-star cast in Extrapolations. A climate change melodrama from the writer behind Contagion. May 20, 2023 Full Review Read all reviews

Christine S You can say whatever you want about the storyline but the prophetic nature of the story from the fires endangering all human life and the parallels with the fires affecting much of the US this past summer to flooding in florida to ice sheets collapsing to reviving extinct species "resurrection biology" are headline events that we watched unfold in the news just this year since the show was released. So look past the disjointed and jarring steps through time and instead watch with a "what if this is accurate" mindset. Then change the world ... because if not we could soon all be struggling to survive. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/26/23 Full Review Scott R Amazing! Almost every episode a standalone mini docu-film. Hits very close to home. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/02/23 Full Review Mike C This show just really misses the mark in so many ways. The kid in cammies preaching to older people on the hologram is just ridiculous. Worse than that was the guy that sets himself in fire that just stands there when in reality he would be flopping around screaming instead. I'm damn near positive the guy that got mauled by the walrus could have outran the walrus. It guess it is trying to be provocative or jarring but all their little gimmicks just make it look fake and ridiculous. Also, that kid Alana in episode 3 made that one almost unwatchable with her poor little rich girl routine her obnoxiously annoying voice and the BS she spews out of it. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 10/07/23 Full Review Adonijah L A star-studded cast that can't compensate for the lack of substance evident in its writing. The Black Mirror/Years and Years style storytelling could have saved this flop, but a lack of cohesion across episodes and character development makes this limited series a waste of time. Don't let the many award-winning actors in the cast lure you into a false sense of hope; instead just read an article about the impact of climate change, believe science, and call on companies to reduce their carbon footprint. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 08/28/23 Full Review Linus R So,e episodes was one of the best i ever seen and some was terrible. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/20/23 Full Review Antoine T The show is very irregular: some episodes feature great personalities, some shine with great acting and touching stories, but some other ones will draw your patience. As a starter, the world is too much depicted from the black-and-white lens of conspiracy. Moreover, it gives us a very American view of the world's society and economics while trying to do the exact opposite. And some dialogues and situations feel too much like sermons sometimes. But overall I think it's worth making the effort to view this show as an anticipation documentary. We must give it credit for showing us a possible scenario of what life on Earth may become during our lifetime. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 08/11/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
