      Season 1 – Getting On

      2013 Comedy List
76% 29 Reviews Tomatometer 89% 50+ Ratings Audience Score Based on the BBC series of the same name, "Getting On" follows the daily lives of overworked nurses and doctors attending to the needs of elderly female patients at Mt. Palms Hospital in Long Beach, Calif. Even as they attempt to serve their charges in a rundown extended-care wing of a hospital mired in red tape, the staff members deal with life's complications and conflicting agendas, both professional and personal. The ragtag crew includes Dr. Jenna James, whose dreams of becoming a famous medical researcher died at Mt. Palms; Nurse Dawn, who might excel at her job if she didn't obsess over finding a boyfriend; Nurse DiDi, an example of how one's easy rapport with patients should inspire co-workers but doesn't; and Patsy De La Serda, a supervising nurse of ambiguous sexuality. Though sometimes juvenile in nature, Getting On finds the funny, even in a somber setting, with humorous yet sensitive narratives and characterizations.

Previous Sonia Saraiya AV Club It doesn't give us the luxury of stepping back, but it doesn't give us the moral high ground of stepping forward. It is... merciless. A- Jun 15, 2018 Full Review Richard Lawson Vanity Fair While not quite as emotionally (or spiritually) concerned as Enlightened was, Getting On is still a comedy that knows when to take its subject matter seriously, to be generous of spirit instead of simply snide or broadly silly. Jun 14, 2018 Full Review Robert Bianco USA Today The show wastes a cast most comedies would envy. Jun 14, 2018 Full Review Tom Gliatto People Magazine The performances are unvarnished portraits of failed lives. Jun 14, 2018 Full Review Eleni Armenakis The Loop It's that sort of moment - where the absurdity of the hospital's rules meets with what should be an everyday occurrence and turns it into chaos - that Getting On does well. Dec 9, 2013 Full Review Roger Catlin rogercatlin.com For all the chaos here, filmed in drab monotone, Getting On looks like it has the potential to be sardonically funny. Previous Leslie C In search of a binge, I happened upon this unique dark comedy/ tragedy. A brilliant capture of patients and staff in an overlooked subject which should not be ignored Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/16/22 Full Review Audience Member Love it. The whole cast is amazing. Laurie Metcalf really shines. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Funny, surprising. Fantastic. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member It has a slow start but its sooooo good! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member One of the best shows on television. Very funny, poignant, great characters, terrific performances across the board. Too bad that it didn't really catch on with the viewers. Kinda reminds me of other HBO series like The Comeback and Enlightened, brilliant shows that just didn't find much of an audience. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Haven't laughed so hard in a while, Getting On balances humour with thought provoking themes to craft an excellent comedy. I loved every character in their awkward situations, it's a must watch. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Read all reviews Next Post a review
