It is treated like a modern police procedural which means more time is spent on personal drama and very little time is invested in the story of the crime. Which means we’re forced into watching Maigret walking, brooding, visiting with wife and doing everything but solving the crime before everything comes together in the last two minutes of the story. Either the actor is too wooden or the script too stale for each and every character. Very painful to watch. What they’ve done to the Countess story is a travesty. Wainwright doesn't have the spark needed for the lead in my opinion and Martini (Love that name.) is simply wasted. She was great in "The Gold." And YES! No one else can do it but Maigret! And of course he'll do it his way. So sad ITV didn't bring back an excellent Maigret starring Rowan Atkinson. Definitely better than this new version.
