Four of Marvel's biggest heroes are each working individually but have one common goal in mind -- to save New York City. Burdened with their own personal challenges, Matt Murdock (Daredevil), Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Danny Rand (Iron Fist) realize that they likely won't be able to accomplish their goals working solo. That realization leads them to team up and form The Defenders, a supergroup that is more equipped to save the Big Apple than the heroes would be if they continued to work on their own.

Marvel's The Defenders further develops well-known characters in an action-packed arc whose payoff packs more than enough of a punch to offset its flaws.

Toby Earle London Evening Standard This all-punching, all-high-kicking extravaganza is what those solo shows have been building towards, the intimacy of Luke Cage, the first series of Daredevil, and Jessica Jones shoulder-barged aside to knot this universe in an NYC brawl pretzel. Jul 16, 2018 Full Review Brady Dale Observer I just wish the show had gotten started faster. Sep 13, 2017 Full Review David Hinckley New York Daily News The long-awaited Defenders who fight their way onto Netflix next Friday are not your older brother's superheroes. Sep 1, 2017 Full Review Sarah Musnicky Legion of Leia at Vital Thrills We start to finally see things coming together, which should probably have happened more towards the beginning of the episode. Sep 20, 2019 Full Review Josh Wilding ComicBookMovie.com With any luck, the next time these heroes come together, they'll have a better villain to face and a stronger story. Despite those failings, The Defenders still delivers an enjoyable team up for these characters but it's clear it should have been better. Rated: 3/5 Aug 30, 2019 Full Review Kaitlyn Booth Bleeding Cool [It] starts off slow but takes the four genres from the solo series' and slowly blends them to make a unique team dynamic we haven't seen before in the Marvel Universe. Faiz D The Defenders isn't awful. It's fine. Just fine! I enjoyed their interaction with each other but I am still not a fan of the Hand storyline. It ruined the show for me. (ENGLISH) The Defenders is the closest thing you'll get to a superhero crossover without leaving Netflix’s universe. And while it doesn’t go all-in on everything, it’s definitely engaging and entertaining. Bringing Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist together in one story is a treat for fans, and the best part is it doesn’t drag on — eight well-paced episodes with no filler. That said, there are moments where the group dynamics don’t fully click. Sometimes it feels like Luke Cage could handle everything on his own — just by walking, no kicks needed — and at others, you wonder why he doesn’t. And while the show works overall, the absence of a character like The Punisher is definitely noticeable. He would’ve been a perfect fit and could’ve raised the stakes a lot. Sigourney Weaver adds gravitas to the villain role, and some of the dialogue between characters sparkles, though others fall into well-worn clichés. Still, the pace picks up as the story progresses, and once everyone kicks into action mode, things take off. All in all, The Defenders feels like a reunion of old friends who might not be perfect together, but they’ve got enough charisma to make you want to stick around and see what happens next. And that’s saying something. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 05/11/25 Full Review Nerd W Took some time for the team up, Disney need to follow this up with more Defenders Action. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/21/25 Full Review Vasqu3z V Brilliantly directed! Each Character has it's own tone and the switching between them is fantastic. Writing is really good, i was instantly interested and hooked, although there were some little plotholes. One of the best Crossovers ever done! Every Show is perfectly implemented. Can't believe some of these Audience Reviews here smh.. i'm giving 5 Stars because of them. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/17/25 Full Review Robert C After watching the excellent first two seasons of daredevil. Having to get through this to be caught Up before starting season 3 of Daredevil. A lot of the dialogue was just painful to listen to. Was glad when It was done so I could watch the next season of daredevil. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 04/14/25 Full Review August C Great TV Show Love that they actually brought in the side characters from the other shows I cried at the finale 😭 Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/27/25 Full Review Read all reviews
