Critics Consensus

While Resident Evil comes closer than previous adaptations to honoring the beloved video games' labyrinthine lore, this zombie serial could still use more brains.

Valerie Anne Autostraddle ... The show has the ingredients for success but didn’t quite bake it long enough, or forgot to mix it together properly, or didn’t use ENOUGH of one ingredient. Jul 20, 2022 Full Review Melanie McFarland Salon.com It enables Reddick, who is always one of the best parts of the shows he's a part of, to enjoy the type of dramatic athletics actors love to engage in, especially these days... To be clear, Resident Evil is not a good show by any means. Jul 19, 2022 Full Review Ben Travers IndieWire For the majority of the eight-episode first season, Resident Evil is a mishmash of ambitions, likely to satisfy very few fans of the franchise (whether they’re fond of the video games, movies, or both). Rated: C+ Jul 15, 2022 Full Review Nuha Hassan Castle of Chills Overall, Resident Evil is fun, and it doesn’t take itself too seriously. Its universe has a rich history of characters, monsters, and villains. Sep 8, 2023 Full Review Pramit Chatterjee Digital Mafia Talkies The only reason to watch Resident Evil is if you want to fall asleep. This is a joke and not meant to hurt people who suffer from sleeplessness. But, yes, if you want to put something on that will lull you into a deep slumber, this is it. Rated: 2/5 Jul 20, 2023 Full Review Martin Carr Yahoo! Movies Pedestrian pacing and a disjointed plot line, make Resident Evil hard work. Lance Reddick is wasted as Albert Wesker, while this series struggles to feel relevant. May 20, 2023 Full Review Read all reviews

Lou G this series was really f***ing good, *really* f***ing good. ending on a cliffhanger i'm raging to discover Netflix cancelled it because viewers were c***s as were critics. listen; this series is f***ing *good*. the Resident Evil movies are total trash and i had low expectations for this series but it far surpassed them in every way. it was incredibly well made, acted, scripted, scored, directed, everything. it was a quality, mature realisation and adaptation and people are dicks. i'll never get closure now and i was genuinely invested. first ever RT review i've ever written, out of frustration and anger. peace out, dicks. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/19/25 Full Review Ken D I like it. I love it. I want some more of it. What do people hate about this?? You people are seriously insane! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/17/25 Full Review Hughe J Resident Evil Netflix was released on streaming in 2022 and thankfully only ran for one season. As a fan of the games I was looking forward to this but after watching the entire series was left disappointed. Lance Reddick is a great actor and I always enjoy seeing him. However, having him portray Albert Wesker was a bad choice especially since Wesker was white and killed off in RE5. Then there's the flashbacks. The whole series is flashbacks and it's too much. Some of the CGI monsters are cool, some are ridiculous, in regards to the acting most of it is subpar; Reddick is excellent as always. Overall, there seemed to be a good show in there somewhere but what we got wasn't it. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 06/29/25 Full Review Gregory S Did pretty much nothing right from the games. The acting was horrible, as were the characters. It’s a CW Zombie show basically. Not worth it at all. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 06/01/25 Full Review Audience Member The series was great, I enjoyed nearly every part of it. I think it would have done better not swapping back and forth between timelines. There was enough story in both parts to hold its own. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 05/11/25 Full Review James L I created a rotten tomatoes account just to give this half a star... It's like the people that wrote, produced and starred in this had never seen a Resident Evil film or game in their life! So disappointing given that they clearly had a decent budget to work with. This series was more about to rebellious teenage girls fighting with their dad, whilst he grappled with holding down a strenuous job. Focus more on zombies, the virus and fighting Umbrella... In my opinion, we need a resident evil series based off of the Resident Evil 4 story line - The game was gripping, good storyline, good characters and kept you engaged the whole time!
