Dan Schindel Vox It hasn't missed a single beat, effortlessly recapturing everything that has always made the series great... It's intoxicatingly perfect action cinema. Feb 8, 2019 Full Review Alan Sepinwall Uproxx Samurai Jack wasn't a property I'd been dreaming of ever seeing again, but it's emerged from its trip through time and space far better than most of the recent TV revivals. Feb 7, 2019 Full Review Melanie McFarland Salon.com The way that a show like this ends is less of a problem than the sad knowledge that we won't witness any more from it. At the close of all his years, Jack has found an honorable way home. May 28, 2017 Full Review Nick Statt The Verge Even with the weight of Jack's grief hanging over every moment, Tartakovsky manages to flavor certain scenes with an absurdist comedic flair. Feb 7, 2019 Full Review Madeleine Slade CBR Take any single image from the new season by itself and it looks like a dynamic work of art. With so many haunting visuals, we're going to be remembering this show for a long time to come. Feb 7, 2019 Full Review Omar Holmon Black Nerd Problems My god, this is the most wonderful time to be alive for fiction. Listen, when we talk about comebacks. When we talk about Ali, Foreman, Jordan, we going to have to put Samurai Jack up there with the greats. Feb 7, 2019 Full Review Read all reviews

Jay W Samurai Jack is a classic good vs evil tale. Aku is a literal personification of evil. He is voiced perfectly by Mako and is a wonderful mix of entertaining and intimidating overarching threat for the series. Jack is the hero. He is noble, brave, wise, kind and really good at fighting. As the intro explains, Jack is in a future where Aku rules the world. Most of the series involves Jack wandering from place to place helping people. Or sometimes he is just transformed into a chicken. There is a lovely variety of episodes that this setting can allow for. And then season 5 comes along and gives the best revival for series and provides the ending fans were waiting for years. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 05/27/25 Full Review Kevin P Gorgeously stylized animation, exciting action sequences contrasted by subtle moments or silence guided by visual storytelling that succeeds in “Show, don’t tell”, an emotionally engaging story for Jack & Ashi with themes of PTSD/child soldiers/choice vs circumstance (would’ve like to have a scene where Ashi explains her abusive brainwashing backstory to Jack for a moment if empathy on the cycles abusive cults that restrict choice with a sense of remorse for the sisters needing to be killed by Jack in self-defense, though he did talk this out with a dandelion and Ashi talked it out with her mother)/breaking out of the biases that we were raised with & learning to hold onto hope to continue fighting against the systematic injustice of the world/the serenity of nature/fun callbacks to the original episodes with all the cameos/pacing issues where too much time is wasted on Scaramouch comedically returning to Aku and the awkward romantic comedy between Jack and Ashi/Ashi’s “transformation”/Ashi defeating the high priestess contrasted by Jack finding inner peace to reclaim his sword/awkwardly rushed romance filler in episode 8 and the first half of episode 9 that could’ve been used for more time with the final showdown against Aku/neat twist of Ashi being Aku’s biological daughter with a cool transformation/the final battle against Aku is still a fun payoff despite its briefness/the bittersweet ending with Ashi disappearing at the wedding gave me mixed feelings in contrast with its more satisfying counterpart from the 2020 videogame’s alternate happy ending where Ashi survives and lives a peaceful life with Jack/I wish we could’ve had at least one conversation between Jack and his parents as a payoff for their emotional reunion. Not perfect, but a damn good return to form. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/19/25 Full Review Chuck S This is a masterpiece Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/14/23 Full Review Luciano B One of CN's best shows from start to finish and the finale was expertly crafted and a magnificent conclusion to Jack's story. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/04/23 Full Review Audience Member Visually outstanding, the fifth season is the highest point the show gets to. I really liked the characters in this season and the soundtrack which for me are the thing that makes this season better than the others. The conclusion of Jack's story is extremely well executed leaving fans satisfied. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member It might just be nostalgia talking, but Samurai Jack season 5 was amazing from start to finish. A more mature tone sets the stage for a great send-off to one of the best cartoon characters of all time. I only wish this wasn't the last time we get to see Jack.
