What to Know

Critics Consensus

Clean up on aisle three -- Foodtopia has plenty of filthy gags to tide over fans of Seth Rogen's sense of humor, but this follow-up can't help but feel like stale leftovers.

John Nugent Empire Magazine Not as full a meal as the original film, but almost as funny -- and much filthier. If nothing else, it will put you off your food. Rated: 3/5 Jul 15, 2024 Full Review Clint Worthington RogerEbert.com An eight-episode series ... that simply regurgitates the same tired material as the film, while adding little to the recipe. Rated: 1/4 Jul 14, 2024 Full Review Robert Lloyd Los Angeles Times The series wobbles along the fine line between stupid and clever, falling — not by accident — to one side and then the other. Jul 12, 2024 Full Review Tara Ariano Cracked I realize how dumb this looks spelled out, but this is a foundational problem with Foodtopia: It forces the viewer to think through the implications of a world in which food has consciousness. Aug 28, 2024 Full Review Austin Burke Austin Burke/Flick Fan Nation It eventually begins expanding this world in an interesting way, mimicking hilarious elements of our society, but these attempts are unable to overcome the inconsistency within the humor. Rated: 4/10 Jul 22, 2024 Full Review Jesse Hassenger The Daily Beast Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg's animated hit from 2016 quickly tires out in series form, with the Prime Video show upping the raunch factor a bit too much. Cees T Capitalism bad, the amusingly raunchy CGI. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 09/20/24 Full Review Jordan R Man… they had a genius idea with the Sausage Party movie. They follow it up with a 3 minute food ø r g y and sticking things up peoples buts?! This is bad. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 08/09/24 Full Review Samuel M Its a weird and pretty dumb comedy. Its just poop and fart jokes and it violent in a bad way. I was able to make it through two episodes last night and I really can't recommend it. I think even if you liked the movie you should probably not watch this. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 08/04/24 Full Review Mikhael D This is so ridiculously bad that it comes dangerously close to being entertaining. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 07/27/24 Full Review Barry A Movie was much better Rated 2 out of 5 stars 07/27/24 Full Review Audience Member The series aims to expand the narrative established by the 2016 film, whose humorous tone suggests an unconventional approach. In “Sausage Party: Foodtopia”, this proposal is maintained, although it explores different themes that give the series a peculiar character. In this series, we see the food trying to establish a specific order and developing a unique concept of freedom. However, they end up following a parallel path to humanity's journey, presenting different ideas with an ideological struggle between capitalism and socialism. To achieve this outcome in the narrative, it is essential to go through a variety of comic scenes that have become a trademark of this franchise, capable of captivating the audience from the start. The series should not be taken seriously and will only appeal to a small portion of the public due to its acidic and explicit comedy tone. For those who appreciate this style of humor, they will certainly find pleasant moments of entertainment. However, if the 2016 movie wasn't to your taste, this series may not be right for you. Ultimately, the rating for “Sausage Party: Foodtopia” is average, as it falls under Prime Video's B-level production and features a less captivating narrative compared to the original film. Although the series contains some impactful scenes, other productions with more refined acid and satirical humor certainly stand out. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 07/25/24 Full Review Read all reviews
