Not everyone can pull off a western. You think all you need are some cowboy hats and slowly plucked guitars. The Abandons also had the bona fides of being created by Kurt Sutter, and two excellent leads. You’d think that’d be great, right? Such a shame. See more Craig B @Boundsy Mar 21 The most disappointing aspect of The Abandons is not the overall quality of the show. After watching the first episode, which showed plenty of promise for the remainder of the season, to then discover the series ended on a cliffhanger AND was canned pretty much made the decision for me to not continue. I don't waste time with shows that have no conclusion. This is one of the most frustrating aspects of Netflix. Too many TV series are offered with the reckless hope of additional seasons (many of which end on a cliffhanger) rather than be developed as a 'maxi-series' with a confirmed conclusion, which could then be considered for additional instalments. After all this time, Netflix still hasn't learned from so many past mistakes in regards to this lack of forward thinking. From the previews I was thinking we were getting a gritty western along the lines of Godless. This thing is just hopeless. No grit no story, nothing. Couldn’t make it past the first episode.
