What to Know

Critics Consensus

A well-deserved showcase for Samuel L. Jackson, Secret Invasion steadies itself after a somewhat slow start by taking the MCU in a darker, more mature direction.

Melanie McFarland Salon.com Technically Secret Invasion is a lead-in to Armor Wars... Even taking that into account, along with the fantastic cast, the entire series is defined and dogged by a lack of necessity. Aug 8, 2023 Full Review Richard Ferguson The Australian Secret Invasion is the epitome of the Marvel TV and film franchise. Even an armed chase through the streets of Moscow seems stunted, fake and without life. Jul 6, 2023 Full Review Richard Roeper Chicago Sun-Times Kingsley Ben-Adir makes for a charismatic lead villain, while Emilia Clarke is terrific as Talos’ daughter. Rated: 3.5/4 Jun 23, 2023 Full Review Derek Sante KVCW (Las Vegas) If you're expecting high action, you might be a little let down as we being. I'll give it a C+ for now and hold a wait-and-see attitude. Rated: C+ Nov 13, 2023 Full Review Lachmi Deb Roy Firstpost After a self-imposed exile in space, super-spy Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) is back, but not with a bang. Oct 25, 2023 Full Review Fico Cangiano CineXpress Starts off with lots of potential, but ends up being one of Marvel's most disappointing shows to date. Great performances, such as Ben Mendelsohn's, are wasted in a scrambled story without thrills. [Full review in Spanish] Rated: 2/5 Aug 8, 2023 Full Review Read all reviews

Dave L I have no idea why so many people didn't like this series. It not only gave insight as to how the blip affected Fury, but also some back story on the Skrull's, surprise's like Ross as well as leaving us with about a million Skrull's walking around Earth. I feel that this serie's delivered and people have been unjustly negative. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/31/25 Full Review Lê Nguyễn G This series is not as bad as i thought. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/25 Full Review Ultra B Absolutely the worst thing the MCU has ever put out! Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/24/25 Full Review Paul S Terrible. Absolutely terrible. The show made no sense and the story and characters were just overall irritating. They took a great character and gave him one of the worst possible solo projects. The visuals were horrible and just made everything worse. I can't recommend watching this, and if you haven't watched it, just pretend this doesn't exist. (ENGLISH) Marvel has spent years expanding its universe with increasingly big and spectacular stories, but Secret Invasion takes a different route. Everything here feels more grounded, more contained. Instead of fireworks, the series dives into a world of espionage, conspiracies, and quiet tension. Nick Fury, the man who’s always been one step ahead, finds himself for the first time without his usual tools — and that makes him more human, more vulnerable... and more compelling. The tone of the show is reminiscent of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, full of betrayals, secrets, and characters who are never quite what they seem. It’s not your typical superhero tale with explosions and flashy suits — it’s slower and more restrained. For some viewers, that might make the series feel a bit dense or even cold compared to other MCU entries. But for fans of spy thrillers, there are definitely strong moments worth sticking around for. Samuel L. Jackson remains the heart of the story, giving Fury a depth we’ve rarely seen in the character. But the real scene-stealer is Olivia Colman, who brings charisma and a sense of unpredictability that lights up every moment she’s on screen. Ben Mendelsohn also shines with a more nuanced take on Talos, while Emilia Clarke and Kingsley Ben-Adir do well with their roles, though their characters could’ve used a bit more development. Visually, the series opts for a more sober aesthetic, with cinematography that adds to the sense of tension and unease. Still, there are times when the story loses momentum, and some twists feel more predictable than they should in a show that hinges on paranoia and mistrust. All in all, Secret Invasion is an intriguing addition to the MCU, offering a more mature tone and finally giving Nick Fury the spotlight he deserves. It’s not perfect, and at times it may lack the punch fans expect, but if you enjoy the more strategic and serious side of this universe, it’s definitely worth a watch. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/21/25 Full Review Audience Member Though this Nick Fury show has some good ideas, the fact that they are irrelevant to the ongoing MCU overarching storylines makes you question Secret Invasion's existence.
