But it didn't rise to the level of the first seasons: the plot was spread too thin, and it was too easy to lose interest at times, or for the characters to behave unsensibly. The first four seasons of this show were great, with S4 being the peak, then they shifted gears into hysterical melodrama in Season 5 and it's been downhill ever since. This season it really felt like they were making it up as they went along, everything felt haphazard and random, with the dialogue getting steadily worse. But that said, Shetland, Season 7, is still better than most of the stuff we find on the various streaming services these days. With Douglas Henshall's departure, Shetland has lost its core, and that should be the end of the series, but will the series creators be able to resist the urge to wring a few more dollars out of the characters and the beautifully stark Shetland landscape?
