Neal Justin Minneapolis Star Tribune The sight of a light saber coming to life has become about as thrilling as turning on a table lamp. Jun 11, 2024 Full Review Proma Khosla IndieWire The performances overall are more dynamic, the writing more engaging than usual for Disney+, which keeps the series from dragging like its predecessors. Rated: B Jun 7, 2024 Full Review Nic Anstett Autostraddle While The Acolyte is mostly able to skirt by given how well its cast sells the emotional context of each scene, the degree of narrative withholding Headland is attempting here threatens to undermine a lot of this otherwise strong character work. Jun 7, 2024 Full Review Monita Roy Mohan Women Write About Comics I enjoyed The Acolyte, and once it finished, I couldn’t wait to do a complete rewatch to spot the connections, the references, the foreshadowing, and all the details I overlooked the first time around. Aug 20, 2025 Full Review Louis Skye (Ronita Roy Mohan) Stereo Geeks (Podcast) We got incredible, multi-dimensional characters who made us feel all the emotions and whom we’re going to miss. I can’t remember the last time I fell so instantly in love with new characters. I’m so glad The Acolyte exists and that we got to see it. Aug 9, 2025 Full Review Gavin Spoors FILMHOUNDS Magazine An intriguing mystery, strong characters and exciting duels will entice fans and those not so familiar with Star Wars. Noah G. Was the Acolyte really that bad? Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/08/25 Full Review John P. Another example of why liberalsare bad at making anything other than your coffee. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 11/06/25 Full Review Conor M Had potential but not a compelling enough storyline. Off screen representation was off putting and seemingly unenlighted or unprepared. Just can't compare it to any other star wars new Gen series and most certainly not any of the films. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 10/31/25 Full Review Jonty B Great action, lots of fun and new world with an original plot. I have assume that the negative reviews relate as much to the lead as anything else. She's very good but clearly doesn't fit a mould that many angry fans want...I'm sure you know what I mean. Disappointed there won't be anymore. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/31/25 Full Review Jay S. “The Acolyte” had the potential to explore one of the most intriguing eras in Star Wars history — the waning days of the High Republic — but what could’ve been a bold, lore-rich prequel instead collapses under the weight of weak writing, shallow plotting, and questionable creative choices. The show’s biggest problem is its writing. Dialogue often feels stilted and modernized, missing the mythic tone that gives Star Wars its timeless quality. Characters make decisions that defy logic or established motivations, resulting in constant plot contrivances that pull you out of the story. The narrative tries to juggle mystery, politics, and emotional drama but never finds its rhythm — it’s like watching a puzzle being built with pieces from three different boxes. Performances range from serviceable to amateurish. While some cast members do their best with the material, others feel miscast or unconvincing, leaving emotional moments flat and action scenes devoid of tension. What stings most for longtime fans are the contradictions to established lore. “The Acolyte” frequently rewrites or ignores key tenets of Jedi philosophy and Star Wars history, seemingly for convenience rather than creative innovation. Instead of expanding the galaxy in meaningful ways, it often feels like it’s dismantling what made it special in the first place. Visually, the series is competent — the costumes, sets, and lightsaber duels look fine — but aesthetics can’t save a show that fundamentally misunderstands its own universe. “The Acolyte” isn’t the dark, mature exploration of the Force that fans were hoping for; it’s a disappointing reminder that style and canon references can’t make up for poor storytelling. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 10/21/25 Full Review JoParkerBear P Second only to Andor as a Star Wars series, The Acolyte was review-bombed to the point of cancellation by terminally online 4channers, and it’s a real shame. Everything was set up perfectly for an outstanding season 2 that will never come. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 09/30/25 Full Review Read all reviews
