      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Given roguish gravitas by the well-cast Thomas Brodie-Sangster and David Thewlis, The Artful Dodger picks Dickens' pocket and makes the most of his iconic creation.

Previous Hugo Rifkind Times (UK) There’s a sweet and quite sad aspect to the relationship between Dawkins and Fagin... Also, not that this is quite the point, it will leave you feeling pretty damn glad that they eventually invented anaesthetic. Jan 19, 2024 Full Review Dan Einav Financial Times Inconsistent but broadly enjoyable, the eight-part Hulu series is a hybrid of crime caper and period hospital drama that takes some famous intellectual property and inserts it into a story that could have easily worked without it. 3/5 Jan 19, 2024 Full Review James Jackson Times (UK) Brodie-Sangster and Thewlis are a fine double act, and it’s all so breezy you barely pause to consider how unlikely the whole romp is. An artful dodge indeed. 4/5 Jan 18, 2024 Full Review Donal Lynch Sunday Independent (Ireland) An Oliver Twist prequel might sound anything but tempting, but this series, which transports Dickens’s cheeky chappie to 1850s Australia where he’s become an entertainer, has winning performances... Feb 5, 2024 Full Review Neely Swanson Beverly Hills Courier The casting is as masterful as the writing is imaginative. Jan 26, 2024 Full Review Hannah Jane Parkinson Observer (UK) The entire cast are having an obvious blast, and snappy editing, the contemporary score and hyperactive directing by Jeffrey Walker help it zip along. 3/5 Jan 21, 2024 Full Review Read all reviews Next

Previous Madison T The actors are everything and so good together. So nice to see a new show like this, that brings me back to being a teen. such a sweet show!!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/21/24 Full Review Jade C I absolutely loved it!!!!!! I really hope that they will make a seasone two!!!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/19/24 Full Review Steven H Honestly one of the best series I’ve ever watched. The casting is perfect. If you are considering watching this I would not hesitate. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/17/24 Full Review Audience Member **NO SPOILERS** This show is perfection in every way from the start, middle and end. The acting, casting, characterization, music, set, directing, was amazing. It brings joy, sadness, anger, laughter, excitement and basically another random emotion you can think of to your mind when watching. The way it makes you hate people who are objectively doing the right thing (even though I think anyone now would disagree) is amazing. But the way it can make you love people who are definitely not doing the right thing is actually insane. The start was the perfect way to get you to meet these characters that we don’t know of. This includes if you haven’t read or seen Oliver twist. You perfectly understand the world and people in it without it getting shoved down your throat. The perfect foreshadowing that happened throughout the series perfectly displays the time and effort that went in to making the show. The ending managed to make me want to know more but also be content with it finishing. The last few lines of dialog were perfect and the amount of information we gain just before it ends is enough to make us want more but also allows us to have more. It gave me a sense of understanding about how this whole story would continue without knowing what would happen. It allowed me to know just enough to keep m wanting more and interest me but not leaving me like I know everything. I mean it is so perfect that the final dialog makes a call back to the 1st episode the 1st time we even meant 2/3 of the main cast. And the cast was insane from the main 3 to the supporting roles. the supporting roles from the rich side of the town to the pourer side of the town was perfect and the aboriginal casting was really well-done Aswell. The gang (as I call them) were some of the best characterized people in the show and the funniest. We knew their motivation at all points and what made them do stuff but also left us wanting to know what they would do next at all points. At the same time giving us some funny moments. The rich and more fortunate side of the town made us hate some by the end (or at least I hated some) and love others. For me at least it made me dislike people at the start but then grow to like them which is not done easily. the way some people can go looking like they are just blatantly rude and belittling to other people to actually make you kind of like them. It makes a character seem so stuck up just to grow his character to admit something is great. It is truly a masterpiece from start to finish. If you have a soul you should watch this show and if you don’t you should still watch it to gain one. I would right so much more if I could but there would be too much good things to say so I would keep It brief. If I was to speak it to someone it would be a different story though. i can rearly waffle on about how good this show is. but just know besicly eveything is as perfect as i cant posibly be. PS. Bring S2 cus this show was actually amazing. It is somewhere at the top of my list for best shows. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/16/24 Full Review George C Really great. Does not doing anything really brave, but who gives a toss. Its super fun, gripping and a good end. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/08/24 Full Review Ben T just great fun - brilliantly acted - fully justifies top reviews Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/07/24 Full Review Read all reviews Next Post a review
