Abe Levitow
Abe Levitow was a prolific animator, with over 40 years of work with the big studios--Warner Bros. Pictures, UPA, and MGM. In the early 1950s, Levitow worked under the legendary cartoon genius Chuck Jones, the man responsible for many of the classic "Bugs Bunny" and "Road Runner" shorts. Levitow animated dozens of Warner Bros. cartoons throughout the '50s, and, by '59, he began directing, including such episodes as "Really Scent," with Pepé le Pew, and "A Witch's Tangled Hare," with Bugs Bunny. In 1960, Levitow began producing and directing another animated classic, "Mister Magoo," for United Productions of America (UPA), with the lovably incompetent title character voiced by Jim Backus. In '61, Levitow branched out into another genre within the animation field, serving as supervising director to 130 episodes of the crime-adventure comedy "The Dick Tracy Show," while continuing to direct various Warner Bros. cartoons, including episodes of "Bugs Bunny." Levitow's vintage animation and direction work with Bugs and the Roadrunner continued to roll out in multiple incarnations after his death in 1975, including everything from simply "The Bugs Bunny/Road Runner Show," to "The Bugs Bunny/Looney Tunes Comedy Hour" to "That's Warner Bros.!" in '95.
